Goofs

Selena

Edit

Continuity

During the part where AB gets the bus stuck in a ditch, there's an error with consistency. When they drive away to get gas and during the times they're stranded in the middle of nowhere and hitching a ride to the nearest phone, it's daytime. When AB calls Abraham to tell him they got stuck, he and Marcella are already in bed asleep.
When Abraham is first teaching Selena to sing in Spanish, he has glasses on his collar, and close up, there are no glasses on his collar.
When Selena goes back to Chris's room and tells him she's tired of hiding still, his bangs are in his face. During this whole scene, his bangs move from in front of his face to on top of his head.
When Selena's father is teaching them how to play instruments when they are young, he tries to play the drums but Hen falls. When he falls, he lands on a pillow, but in the next shot, the pillow is gone.
When Selena's parents are talking after their kids perform for the first time other than at the restaurant, the mother's hair changes from in front to in back a few times.

Factual errors

During Selena's Grammy walk, the song Bidi Bidi Bom Bom is played. Selena won a Grammy for the album Live, which didn't have Bidi Bidi Bom Bom on it. At Selena's actual Grammy walk, the song No Debes Jugar was played.
AB and Suzette appear to be close in age to 9 year old Selena during her childhood in the early 80s. In real life, AB was 17 and Suzette was 14 during that time frame.
In the film they show Selena and Chris getting eloped right after Selena went bungee jumping. In real life, Selena didn't go bungee jumping until 1993, a year after she and Chris married. Also, in the movie after the elopement they show Selena wearing a white shirt. In real life she wore a Coca Cola jacket.
Toward the end of the movie as they show Selena's death after she's been shot and being taken away on a stretcher, she is wearing jeans and a short sleeve top. In real life, Selena was wearing a regular gray jogging suit.
During the beauty salon scene Selena states that they were flying out to Los Angeles for the Grammys. However the Grammys that were depicted in the film did not take place in Los Angeles. Selena won her Grammy at the 36th Annual Grammy Awards which was held in New York City.

Revealing mistakes

In the "bidi bidi bom bom" scene, in some of the concert shots, you can see that there are only a few audience members and that behind them it's an empty field
As Selena and Sara go up the escalator in the "Beverly Center", an event sign, clearly visible on the right side of the screen, reveals the actual name of the mall they are in (Ingram Park Mall, which is in San Antonio, Texas). There is also a date shown on the sign (October 19, 1996) which postdates Selena's death by more than 1 year.
When Selena and Chris are eating the pizza, Selena's glass has 3 straws in it and Chris's only has 1 straw.

Miscellaneous

When Abraham is talking to the record execs about the crossover album, one of the execs says, "Some say she is the next Gloria EsteBAN" instead of Estefan as it should have been.

Anachronisms

In the mall, a poster for a Playstation game was visible. The Playstation came out in the United States in September, 1995, Nearly six months after Selena's death.
The "Nacho Cheesier" logo on the Dorito bag Selena was eating from didn't appear on Dorito bags until sometime after her death.
During the exterior shot of the Beverly Center all the cars appear to be from the 70s-80s instead of 1994 when Selena attended the Grammys.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

When Chris comes home from the store while Selena is mowing the lawn, she asks him what he bought. We hear him say "Junk food" but his mouth is saying something else.
When Selena opens her boutique, she introduces Yolanda Saldivar and then says that it's her fanclub president- her mouth doesn't move when she says that.
When Selena is performing at a fair as a nine-year-old, during one shot, her lips are not moving even though you can hear her singing.
While recording, "I Could Fall in Love" one of the record executives has his hands on his hips in one shot, then the next they're in his pockets.

Crew or equipment visible

Camera shadows visible in the prologue, when Selena sings "I Will Survive".

Errors in geography

When Selena and her father are in Mexico, the part where they are walking out you can see buildings from the San Antonio skyline in the background but in the next shot the buildings are gone and it is replaced with a mountain.

Character error

When Selena asks Chris if he dances, he replies "I put on my white shoes and black jacket and dance like John Travolta." However, in Saturday Night Fever, Travolta wore black shoes and a white jacket.
