Macon County Jail is a remake of 1976's Jackson County Jail. Roger Corman produced both.
There are a few slight nods to other David Carradine/Roger Corman films. The sheriff at one point says to Carradine's character Coley, "Don't you be coy with me, boy." Carradine played Coy Buckman in 1976's "Cannonball." Later, Ally Sheedy's character Susan demands Coley to stop their vehicle, just as Frankenstein's navigator Annie did to Carradine in "Death Race 2000." And also just like in that film, Carradine/Coley questions the motive of Susan for doing so, just as Frankenstein did to Annie.
