The Castle (1997)

Goofs

The Castle

Edit

Continuity

In the background, either side of viewing Sal's lampshade, a packet of Smith's chips is visible. Before we see the lampshade, the chip packet is facing backwards, after the scene, the packet is facing forwards.

Factual errors

When the characters have their final appeal to the High Court of Australia, it is before 5 Justices. However in reality, when a constitutional dispute is brought before the High Court, all 7 Justices will sit (known as the Full Bench).
In the Federal court, council for Airlink refer to the Kerrigans as the Respondent when in fact they would be the Appellant, appealing the decision from the Administrative tribunal.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

When Darryl Kerrigan receives an ash tray from Wayne Kerrigan as a gift for Fathers' Day, he says that he does not smoke, yet when Darryl is having his appeal heard, just before he meets Lawrence Hammill, he is clearly seen having a cigarette, later finishing and extinguishing the same cigarette before returning to the court room. However, when he said upon receiving the ash tray that he does not smoke the other people around him laugh. Therefore, it is clear that he was joking when he said he does not smoke.

Revealing mistakes

When Darryl, his QC and his solicitor are standing in front of the High Court, the building is clearly very modern. When they are inside, in the courtroom, the decor is obviously that of an older style building.

Errors in geography

The scenes that are supposedly inside the High Court of Australia (Federal court located in Canberra) are actually filmed inside the Supreme Court of Victoria and the Victorian Coat-of-Arms are visible behind the judges.

Character error

Dennis Denuto dictates a letter, takes a tape out of the Dictaphone, puts the tape in the tape player, pushes the "Play" button and starts typing. He didn't rewind the tape first.
