Rosie O'Donnell and Michelle Trachtenberg in Harriet the Spy (1996)

Goofs

Harriet the Spy

Edit

Continuity

After Miss Elson writes the word "Pirates" on the blackboard, its appearance changes twice.
When Sport is playing with his dad, the thumb of the glove on his head is in front, but when he goes to help Harriet through the window, it's behind his head.
Position of items on the counter when Sport buys them at Hong Fats grocery.

Crew or equipment visible

When Sport plays with his dad in their apartment, someone is visible on the left side of the screen in the adjacent room of the apartment.

Errors in geography

This film is set in New York City, yet in scenes such as the "kids yelling and chasing Harriet through town" segment, landmarks unique to Toronto, the capital city, are featured blatantly, including a flowerbed in the park shaped like the Canadian maple leaf, and background shots of buildings recognized worldwide as Toronto's architecture.

Plot holes

When Harriet's parents confront her about her retaliation against the other students who have bullied her, Mrs. Welsch claims that Laura Peters' parents have called to inform her and Mr. Welsch that Laura has locked herself in the bathroom and won't come out (after having had her long braid cut off by Harriet). However, in a scene taking place between Laura's "haircut" and the angry phone calls, a short-haired Laura is seen with the other girls throwing spitballs on the ceiling of the school restroom and laughing, not seeming even the least bit upset about having all of her hair hacked off.

Boom mic visible

The boom mic is visible over 24 times in the open matte (4:3) version of the movie. In the 16:9 matted widescreen version, it is only seen one time: when Harriet realizes that her notebook is missing after she and her friends play bumper tag. The boom mic dips very quickly into the frame in the upper left corner of the screen.
