Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton, and Bette Midler in The First Wives Club (1996)

Goofs

The First Wives Club

Edit

Continuity

In the final musical number, Elise's shoes change.
When the wives drop down on the window-washing scaffold, they pass more floors than there are in the building. Even after a free fall, a camera shot from below shows them to be still near the top of the building.
Just before the ending musical number, all three women spin around in their overcoats. Elise's hand can be seen getting caught in Annie's belt, but in the next shot, it is free.
In the clothing store, Morty hangs the jacket back on the rack and the front is facing forward. As he walks away, it's facing backward.
In the scene where Brenda dumps the bottle of vodka and reveals all the bottles in Elise's trash can, the amount of liquid in Elise's glass changes--especially notable after she spins around quickly and the liquid goes flying, and then in the next shot, the glass is almost half-full again.

Factual errors

In the opening narration, it's stated it takes place in 1969, "The year of Yellow Submarine". The movie came out in 1968, and the song itself came out in 1966/

Revealing mistakes

When Aaron calls Annie to go to dinner, Annie says hello before picking up the phone instead of waiting until she had the phone to her ear.
Annie asks for a virgin Mary, but the only drink that is shown is chardonnay.
When the three ladies are in Morty's home, they go out to the balcony to try to escape without being seen. Elise climbs into the window washing scaffolding while Brenda is trying to convince Annie to climb in. Annie's glasses disappear while she screams hysterically and magically reappear as she starts to climb into scaffolding.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

In the scene after Cynthia's funeral, when the girls are at the restaurant table, Brenda asks Elise about her surgery. When Brenda says "...the full enchilada", it's dubbed from "...the full Ivana" (as seen in the trailer), referencing Ivana Trump.
When Elise goes to Bills office for the first time to take possession of the assets her lips do not match when she says "the ming vase".
When Annie and her Mother walk inside the house, right before seeing the news about Cynthia on the TV, the audio they speak doesn't match their mouths and movements.

Plot holes

Brenda works for Duarto Feliz and surely Morty would have known this. In which case, why is Morty not more suspicious about Duarto's visit to his and Shelly's apartment? There is certainly no acknowledgement by Morty of the existing connection between himself and Duarto, and the idea of Morty not knowing that Brenda works for him is unrealistic as both he and Brenda would be contributing to Jason's care. Morty would know for whom his ex-wife worked.

Character error

In the opening sequence at College, the girls all line up for a photo. Cynthia is the tallest by a large degree. When seen grown up, due to their actor counterparts, Cynthia would have been the shortest by far, as Stockard Channing is shorter than Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton at 5"2.
When Elise announces that they've taken Bill's car, the camera cuts to Annie circling it on the dry-board on the wall. However, it's already circled, and her pen never touches the board.
