Nicole Kidman in To Die For (1995)

Goofs

To Die For

Edit

Continuity

When Suzanne Stone removes the video tape from her camera just after recording her self-interview, the tape is already fully rewound.
In the two shots that proceed the funeral, it is clear that the town has snow on the ground, but when the funeral itself is shown, the ground is clear.
The shots of Suzanne at the funeral show her hair style is different than is shown before and after the funeral, when her hair appears noticeably shorter.
Printed photo images of Suzanne and Jimmy, shown later in the movie, don't match their poses in the photo booth.
When Lydia calls Suzanne to set up the last meeting, a large device is shown being taped to her abdomen. At the mall, with the detectives listening, Suzanne pokes Lydia in exactly the same spot, but neither she feels nor does the audience see the device under Lydia's shirt.

Factual errors

On the night that Larry is murdered, Suzanne, her parents and Larry's parents are all shown sitting inside the apartment where he was shot. As a murder scene, it would have been taped off for forensic examination. There is no way it would have been contaminated on that level. It would have been at least a week before anyone outside of the CSI team were allowed in.
Lydia says that Suzanne let her drive her car even though she did not have a learner's permit. New Hampshire does not issue learner's permits. Anyone at least 15 1/2 can drive if accompanied by a licensed driver at least 25 years of age.
The credits say that Misha is played by Walter but, in fact, in the movie the dog's name is Walter and its real name is Mischa.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

Suzanne refers to Pierre Trudeau as an ex-president of Canada, but Canada has prime ministers. However, this mistake merely shows Suzanne's lack of knowledge of other countries.

Revealing mistakes

When Larry and Suzanne are in Miami on their honeymoon, they are enjoying a warm, sunny day, and Larry is in a colorful tropical shirt. But his breath is clearly visible when he speaks.

Miscellaneous

At the end when Janice (Illeana Douglas) is skating on the frozen pond, she is very unsteady on her skates like someone who has not been skating long. Janice skates out of the frame and then skates back into the frame; however, it is clearly another, more experienced skater.

Errors in geography

This story takes place in Little Hope, NH. Early in the movie, a newspaper article entitled "Sex, Violence and the Weather" shows a map of southern New Hampshire, with an arrow pointing to Little Hope; the arrow actually points to a location in Massachusetts.
The movie takes place in New Hampshire, however, during one of the mall scenes a Laura Secord location can be spotted. This is a Canadian chain which has never operated within the United States.

Character error

At Larry Maretto's burial, the Catholic priest says "in nominis patris et filius et spiritus sanctus", getting most of the endings wrong; correct is "in nomine patris et filii et spiritus sancti", which any priest would know.
