A naive young man and a rich city girl fall in love. Her stepfather, however, doesn't approve of the match and will stop at nothing to split the pair.

Badal comes from a rural village to take an enrollment into a college in the city. He meets his fellow collegian, Tina Oberoi and both gets acquainted with each other and after a few misgivings both fall in love with each other; only to learn that Tina's wealthy father, Dinesh Oberoi is against this relationship. Dinesh attempt to malign Badal's reputation by accusing him of raping a female but Tina testify in favor of Badal. Dinesh then make an attempt to bribe Badal with money but Badal refuses and continues to meet with Tina. When things goes out of hand Dinesh decides to hire a corrupt Assistant Commissioner of Police Neghi to kill Badal. Badal (Bobby Deol) is a naive but intelligent young man who comes from a small village to the big city. He is introduced to city life by Damru (Harish Patel) who now calls himself Danny. When Badal attends college, he meets with pretty and percocious, Tina Oberoi (Twinkle Khanna), and after a few misunderstanding and misadventures, both fall in love. This is not taken well by Tina's dad, (Raj Babbar), who hopes to marry Tina with his friend's (Bharat Kapoor) son. Tina's dad complains to the college principal (Vijay Kashyap), but Tina testifies in favour of Badal. Tina's dad then asks a corrupt cop, Neghi, who is the city's Assistant Commissioner of Police, for assistance. Neghi arrests Badal on trumped up charges and imprisons him. Badal's dad (Mukesh Khanna) also comes to the big city to try and make sense of why Badal ended up in prison. Tina's dad gives a contract to Neghi to have Badal killed, to which Neghi agrees and hires a gang of ruthless outlaws to hunt and kill Badal. He also pressurizes Tina not to acknowledge and meet Badal anymore, and Tina reluctantly agrees. Will Badal survive? Badal (Bobby Deol) is a naive but intelligent young man (who hunts and captures Man eating tigers alive. Bhairon (Mukesh Khanna) is Badal's father) who comes from a small village to the big city to attend college (Bhairon has to fight the village Panchayat to send Badal to city college on his personal guarantee). He is introduced to city life by Damru (Harish Patel), who calls himself Danny. When Badal attends college, he meets pretty and precocious Tina Oberoi (Twinkle Khanna) and, after a few misunderstandings and misadventures (At first Tina rags Badal, the newcomer in college. Then Badal rags Tina with his humor.. Tina then pretends to fall in love with Badal and gets him all emotional, and crushes him publicly at a college trip) (Badal then pretends to commit suicide and scares Tina off in front of her friends) (The Tina hires a snake to scare off Badal, but the snake escapes and lands on Tina. Badal saves Tina from the snake, but both end up slipping and falling into the river and are swept away. as they escape from the jungle they fight and get separated. Invariably, Tina runs into some Dacoits who try to sexually assault her and Badal saves her...), they fall in love.

This relationship is not approved of by Tina's wealthy widower step-dad Dinesh Oberoi (Raj Babbar), who hopes to takes all her wealth. He is waiting for Tina To turn eighteen. His friend R.K. Mehra (Bharat Kapoor) wants his son Bhushan to get married to Tina and divide the whole wealth. RK has already given Rs 11 Crores to Dinesh to grease his palms and to secure his assent. Bhushan studies in the same college as Tina. One day Badal stops RK from beating up a small kid in Dumru's garage. Dinesh tries to intervene, but Badal tells him to buzz off..

Once Bhushan finds out about love of Tina and Badal, he makes it look like that Badal has been responsible for sexually harassing a girl at the college one night (he harasses the girl himself but leaves Badal's distinctive clothes in her room as evidence), but Tina testifies in favor of Badal and insists he's innocent for the wrongdoing by claiming that she was in Badal's room in his hostel at the time of this incident. Dinesh and RK are on board of the college, and they are embarrassed. Dinesh orders Tina to keep away from Badal.. Dinesh then asks a corrupt cop, Negi, (Danny Denzongpa) the city's assistant commissioner of police, for assistance. Its revealed that Dinesh is Tina's step father and murdered Tina's mother (Kiran Juneja) when she refused to hand over the estate to Dinesh.. But her mom had taken care of this and already put all money in Tina's name. If Tina dies before her 18th Bday, the money goes to a trust.. Hence, Dinesh's plan is to get Tina married to Bhushan and split the money 50:50 with RK.. If she married Badal, both Dinesh and RK get nothing..

Negi arrests Badal on trumped-up charges (Beats him mercilessly on an abandoned road after tearing up his driver's license) and later imprisons him when he continues to meet and love Tina. Badal's widowed dad Bhairon (Mukesh Khanna) comes to the big city to try to make sense of why Badal is in prison. Dinesh gives a contract to Negi for rs 1 Crores to have Badal killed. Negi agrees and hires a gang of ruthless outlaws to hunt and kill Badal. Bhushan warns Tina, and Badal and Tina run away to Badal's village. Badal and Tina take a goods train, which Negi tries to intercept. Then they take a detour through the jungle and Negi is unable to stop them there as well. However, Negi reaches there and threatens the villagers (DInesh secretly tells Negi to kill Tina as she is going to turn 18 in 1 day). To save the villagers, Badal gives Tina sleeping tablets by lying to her that both of them are committing suicide. He then surrenders himself to Negi.

When Tina wakes up, she finds herself in the custody of her step dad who tries to kills her by giving her poison, but RK tells her the truth as now he realizes the true intention of Dinesh who never wanted Tina to get married to Bhushan. She is obviously shocked to find the truth and runs in car. By this time, Badal and Negi had a face off where Negi is defeated by Badal and now he comes to save Tina from Dinesh who is behind her to kill him. Both of them are fighting on the hill where Tina pleads Badal not to kill Dinesh as she consider him her father. However, Negi again comes to kill Badal and saved by Dinesh who sacrifices himself to save Badal and Tin. Negi is finally killed by Bhairon and two others. At last, Tina and Badal unite with the dying Dinesh, approving their match and apologizing for his deeds.
