When Cadets attempt to photograph Heathcoat with Major Payne,
the first time Cadet Stone looks in, the clock shows 4:00, a few seconds later when the rest of the Cadets enter the room, the clock shows 12:30.
In the Night Club/Restaurant, Major Payne eats all the food on his plate. The plate is alternately empty/full in subsequent shots.
At the final JR ROTC games, 4 academies are announced as participating. Madison, Stapleton, Taggert and Wellington. But in the relay race 5 teams are competing at the start. St Michael's cadets are seen as well as their tent in a panoramic view, but they are never recognized or mentioned.
Early in the movie, when Major Payne kicks the window in his room, the next shot of him shows the window is not broken. It looks brand new.
In the courtyard cut scene, after Payne throws the grenade on the obstacle course, you can see the cadets in their dresses before they are ever put in dresses by Payne.
In the closing credits, the producers thank "Fort Union Military Academy," among others. There exists no such institution. The venerable school's correct name is Fork Union Military Academy.
More than once, Major Payne is seen standing at parade rest, his legs at shoulder's width apart, then he immediately salutes the troop leader, without going to attention. One must always be in the position of "attention" to salute anyone.
Major Payne is a Marine Corps officer. However, the cadets are Army JROTC cadets (as evidenced by their unit patches on their BDU uniforms and rank insignia). A Marine officer would be assigned to a Marine Corps JROTC unit, and not an Army one. Army JROTC units are staffed with Army personnel.
The German Shepherd barked at Major Payne. Guide dogs are taught not to be bark or be aggressive, therefore this dog would not have made it through training.
Major Payne is a Marine Corps Officer and though shown twice wearing both the correct service and dress uniform. However when he goes on his date and is confronted by Cadet Stone he is wearing a white choker uniform. This uniform was discontinued by the Marine Corps in the late 1980's and not likely to be worn in 1995.
Even though Major Payne did not assume the position of "At Ease" when given the command "At Ease" by General Decker and remained at the position of attention, this could be a deliberate joke to say that Major Payne's position of ease and attention is the same.
When Major Payne pulls the pin out of the grenade, you can clearly see that the top is painted blue. Live grenades are not painted blue, but practice grenades are.
When Payne is dreaming about his fantasy life with Tiger and
Emily, the attacking soldier has a very visible rubber gun.
When Payne breaks the soldiers finger, there is no way he would be allowed to do this, not only is that highly dangerous, but it could have caused him to go into shock, killing him. So not only is this a mistake, but Payne would have been fired from the military, or sent to prison. There is no way he would have got to do that.
General Decker was rude and disrespectful when he interrupted the cadet's ceremony to tell Major Payne about his newest mission.
Payne's apparent age, rank and Vietnam service do not match up for 1995.
Just before Major Payne removes his sunglasses (when a cadet throws his gun to another cadet) the camera crew is reflected in his mirrored sunglasses.
When the guys are running away when trying to take a picture of Major Payne and Healthcoat in a dress, you can see the sandbag on the floor in the hallway.
Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton is in California, not Virginia as shown on the sign in the beginning of the movie.
When Major Payne reports to Brigadier General Decker at the beginning of the film Payne salutes Decker without wearing his cover. U.S. Marines do not salute indoors unless, for instance, they're on some type of duty that requires them to be in full uniform including covers.
When Cadet Stone says, ""*I* can barely do it. It's slippery out here." ~ Major Paayne says, "Slippery, you say! You think Charlie cares about slippery? Only thing he cares about slipping your throat!"
Major Payne is all about respect. After he has a discussion with General Decker about his newest mission, he looks at the cadets and turns his back on them. That's very rude and disrespectful.
