Goofs

During the airstrike, an F-14 and an F-111 fly in, but only the F-111 bombs the scud site.

When Jack pours the group's first glass of purified water, the glass of water changes between shots.

After Bones and Jack get fired, Jack tells Bones they blew up 22 TVs. In the previous shot, they destroyed 15 TVs.

When "Bones" is looking into the discharge of the machine, his hearing protection is gone. In the shot before, with his eye visible through the pipe, his earmuffs are on his head. When the camera cuts back to the view behind him, they are totally gone.

At 1:24:34, Jack hands Bones the AT4 backward. When Bones stands up, it's facing the right way.

The soldiers take the oath of enlistment when they graduate from Basic Training. In real life, they would take the oath the day an individual enlists, which would be prior to Basic Combat Training.

At a party back home, Bones tells then girlfriend that "he" (his penis) hadn't seen her in 8 weeks, yet he's apparently fully trained in water purification. After 8 weeks of basic training, an additional 10 weeks of training is required to become a Water Treatment Specialist (the official MOS title).

When Bones fires the AT4 near the end of the movie, what comes out is a rocket, exhibited by the smoke trail behind the projectile. The AT4 is a non-recoiling smooth-bore launcher. All propulsion is provided by the charge in the tube, similar to a normal firearm. It has no rocket motor, and hence no smoke trail.

When the convoy is attacked, Pvt. Jones fires two bursts of automatic fire. She is holding an M16A2, which is not an automatic weapon.

Bones and Jack's basic training haircuts are still too long to be the norm at the start of boot camp. In reality they should have only a little stubble on their heads. Their haircuts are mere short buzz cuts.

When Sgt. Stern and his buddies capture Bones, Jack, Christine, and Fred while they are filtering water, they yank Jack and Christine down under the water. The water is up to their knees, so they should have fallen backwards, forward, or to either side. Sgt. Stern and his posse yank Christine and Jack straight down.

Christine's M16A3 rifle is unloaded after she shoots a very short automatic burst at the Libyans. She should still have some ammunition left in the magazine.

The snake at the oasis appears to be an Indochinese spitting cobra (Naja siamensis), which is not native to Africa.

In one scene set in Chad/Libya, a mountain in the background has a very pronounced hump. The mountain is Castle Dome outside of Yuma, Arizona.

After they arrive in Chad, Fred sees some children wearing clothing typical of Southeast Asia.

When the group calls for the second airstrike, their sergeant says a group of F-111s is headed their way. When the aircraft arrive, it's a group of combat helicopters, not F-111 fighter jets.

When Bones and Jack first arrive at boot camp and meet the drill sergeant, as Jack is dragged off the bus and Bones incorrectly calls the drill sergeant "sir" and begins laughing, you can see that he was genuinely laughing at Jack being dragged off the bus. The drill sergeant then breaks character and you can see her eyes widen and her cheeks puff as she holds in a laugh.
