Tim Robbins, Meg Ryan, and Walter Matthau in I.Q. (1994)

Goofs

I.Q.

Edit

Continuity

When Ed gives Einstein a ride on his motorcycle there are no leaves on the trees when they pass the school bus, but when he drops him off, the trees are in full bloom.
When Ed first meets Albert, a woman with an orange purse walks from right to left on the opposite side of the street. Two cuts later, she does the same things.
Towards the end when Ed Walters is running around looking for Catherine, he is wearing the red jacket. The close-up on his hand as he knocks on Einstein's door is a clip from earlier in the movie when he was wearing the gray jacket.
Ed answers the same question in the I.Q. test twice. Many more questions can be seen more than once.
When Catherine is writing 'question everything' on the blackboard, the side angle shows her writing a 'y' with a long tail yet the straight angle shows a regular 'y'. The side angle repeats itself a few moments later when someone approaches her, the 'y' still with a long tail.

Factual errors

Ed checks the wrong answers for several questions in the I.Q. test.
During the I.Q. test, one of the questions reads "Todd has $d, Mark has Four Times as Much as Todd, and Cassandra has Four Dollars More than Todd. Together They Have $.76. What is d?" This card has two mistakes, the first being a misprint with the punctuation before the 76 making it appear to be 76 cents and not 76 dollars. The correct answer to this question would be 12. [d+4d+(d+4)=76 is simplified to 6d=72, and d=12]. He picks the wrong answer. (If you assume that 'together' implies just Mark and Cassandra then the answer is $14.40 which isn't an option.)
In the beginning, when Catherine is at the table, she reported that protons are smaller than light waves, which are made out of photons. This is incorrect because protons have a mass of 938,000,000 eV/c^2 and photons have a mass of 1*10^-18 eV. Photons are much smaller than protons because they are used to excite particles from one level to another.
The comet also should not move visibly across the sky.
The symposium is supposed to take place on April 1 and at the first "meeting of the minds," Catherine suggests to Edward that he deliver his theory at the symposium "four days from now." But, at the beginning of the movie the trees are in full blossom, far too early for New Jersey.

Revealing mistakes

In the film credits, Tony Shalhoub character is listed as Bob Watters. In the movie, he introduced himself as Bob Rosetti.
On the way to the press conference, Catherine and Ed get out of the car in a park to have a confrontation. When Catherine sees Pres. Eisenhower, she waves and calls the president, "Ike" when she should have addressed him as "Mr. President."

Miscellaneous

During Ed's makeover as a scientist, Nathan Liebknecht puts his vest on Ed twice.

Anachronisms

In the after-conference dinner party, Louis Bamburger is gushing about a four color pen to Eddie. While multi-color pens have existed for most of the century, the particular BIC four color pen with blue and white barrel shown in the film was brought to market in 1970.
In a scene with Einstein riding in a car, the radio plays Little Richard's Tutti Frutti, released in November 1955. However, Albert Einstein died in April 1955.
The story is set sometime between 1953 (when Dwight D. Eisenhower became president) and 1955 (when Albert Einstein died). But it also features Louis Bamberger (1855-1944)
When Einstein is in hospital, the IV drip has a plastic clamp
When Meg Ryan's character is in Louis Bamberger's office, Louis plays a Spike Jones stereo recording on an Emerson Multiplex High Fidelity Stereo Console. This stereo console did not exist at the time that the movie was set (March and April 1955). The first commercial stereo record was not sold until 1958. The movie actually shows an RCA 78 RPM Mono record, not a stereo 33-1/3 RPM LP record.

Crew or equipment visible

When the four men are driving in the blue sedan and nearly hit another car, the camera/boom is obvious continuously in the side panel of the car.

Boom mic visible

Reflected in the trunk of maroon convertible in the first scene, when the scientists look at the car.

Character error

When Catherine and James sit at the restaurant table discussing paint colors, he shows her three in a row, starting with the closest to him: aquamarine, blue-green, and algae. She picks the first one but he calls it the latter.
