The Program (1993)

The Program

Edit

Continuity

The endzone design frequently changes colors from Maroon and Yellow to Red and Black. At one point "Carolina" appears visible (during the Michigan game) in the end zone.
When Joe and Camille are riding Joe's motorcycle off-road, the tires on Joe's motorcycle in the close-up are knobby/off-road tires while in the shots from the profile they are clearly street tires.
When Darnell meets Autumn in the library for a tutoring lesson, he isn't carrying the football. In the next shot of him, Darnell is seen with the football in his right arm.
When Joe and Camille jump over the cliff on the motorcycle, Camille's skirt billows up, revealing her buttocks. When the motorcycle lands, her skirt is tucked under the seat.
When Darnell fumbles the football in the first practice and Coach Winters picks it up and tells him "how wonderful it would be if we still had the ball," the threads on the ball alternate from pointing up to pointing down.

Factual errors

Lattimer is seen getting a urine transfusion before the final game so he can pass his steroid test as it has been given by the coach. This is a medically impossible procedure to perform, especially from a med student who may not know what he or she is doing.
In the final play of the climactic game, Joe scrambles and attempts to pass but the ball slips from his hand, bounces back to him and he throws for the winning TD.

However, Joe's arm was moving forward in a throwing motion when he lost the ball and it was in reality an incomplete pass once it touched the ground and the play would've been blown dead. As time had expired ESU would've lost the game.
Unless they were in a mid-major conference, which it does not seem they were based on their opposition, ESU's bowl game eligibility should never have come into question. Even had they lost the last game, at 7-4 they should've been eligible for at least a minor bowl game.
Before the last kickoff, Darnell licks his hands before catching the ball. Receivers will never want to have wet hands in any game.
During the Michigan game, several Michigan players are seen wearing jersey numbers that were retired by U of M decades before, including 1940 Heisman Trophy winner Tom Harmon's #98 and All-American end Ron Kramer's #87.

Revealing mistakes

When Alvin Mack is trash talking. there is no way the Mississippi State running back could hear him that clearly due to the crowd noise.
Lattimer paints his face prior to games. This was not permitted under NCAA rules.
During the NCAA drug test scene, Lattimer is allowed into a lavatory stall where he uses urine that was stashed for him to use. Players are actually placed in a tent where there is no such opportunity for the player to cheat.

Miscellaneous

At the pregame meeting where the coach asks his veteran players to speak about what football means to them. Darnall is one of the players who speaks.

As a freshman he had yet to play a game for the team and in no way was a veteran.
Several instances of unsportsmanlike conduct overlooked by the referees, i.e. Lattimer's tearing off the helmet of the opposing quarterback in the first game.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

When Darnell and Autumn are arguing over why she didn't tell her father about him, Darnell turns around and the word "Why?" is heard in Darnell's voice, but his lips don't move.
In the final game, Darnel is sitting on the bench he says, "Punk ass Griffin," but his lips don't move
When Camille calls Joe in rehab, Camille hangs up the phone but you can still hear a dial tone.
There's no possible way Darnell Jefferson would be able to speak so clearly while having a mouthpiece in his mouth during the game against Michigan.

Errors in geography

During many of the crowd close-ups during the games, many of the fans can be seen wearing University of South Carolina shirts/hats/etc. In addition, during the Michigan game, fans with orange shirts can be seen, which would indicate opposing fans from Tennessee, not Michigan.
