Noah Fleiss and Jacob Tierney in Josh and S.A.M. (1993)

Goofs

Josh and S.A.M.

Edit

Continuity

When Thom sends Josh to his room during the first dinner scene, both of his hands were down, but in the next shot when he gets up angry at Josh for talking back, his left hand and thumb are sticking out.
The Kotex on Sam's forehead appears and disappears between shots when they are sleeping at the grain elevator, and theb re-appears in the car.

Factual errors

The fact Josh and Sam were able to evade the authorities as long as they did is impossible, as they were able to travel across state lines without being stopped by police officers. Since the vehicle was stolen, along with the fact the car rental agency would confirm it was rented to Derek Baxter. This would provide law enforcement agencies information containing the make, model, color and license plate number of the vehicle in question. The search for the boys would be a greater priority, as it would have been assumed they were abducted by Baxter.
Josh and Sam casually go under a barbed wire fence at the Canada-United States border unnoticed. This is impossible as Canadian border service agents would have seen and apprehended the boys immediately upon noticing them crossing into the country illegally.

Crew or equipment visible

A camera is visible through the glass in the banquet room at the hotel in Dallas.

Plot holes

Derek Baxter nor the rental car company do not call the police to report the vehicle stolen. Had the vehicle been reported, the license plate would have given the authorities the required information needed to send out a nationwide alert.
Caroline and Tom don't seem to be concerned about Josh and Sam's disappearance, as they don't attempt to try and find them, as they would both have been notified of the boys' disappearance from the hotel in Dallas by both the city's police department and the airline in which the boys were flying on.
Alison does not question the boys on how they obtained the stolen vehicle when they pick her up, yet she drives it with no hesitation. Due to the fact the trio stopped at various locations across different states, they would have been captured in surveillance footage. Had a nationwide alert been issued for the boys, the vehicle's information, along with the fact it was a stolen rental would have been made public, which would have led to Alison been charged with both grand theft auto and child abduction had they been caught, which would clear Derek Baxter of any wrongdoing in the process.
Josh made fraudulent transactions on Jean-Pierre's credit cards, and how Jean-Pierre never got suspicious about the activity is surprising, given the fact the transactions occurred away from his home base in California. Had Jean-Pierre been notified of the fraudulent transaction activity, along with Caroline being notified of Josh and Sam's disappearance from the Dallas hotel, he and Caroline would have been able to locate the boys through the financial institution and credit card company keeping documented information of where the transactions took place.
Josh broke into a private residence with Derek and Sam as accomplices, how the break-in went undetected by neighbors on the block is surprising. Given the fact the break and enter occurred in the evening hours, someone who lived in one of the neighboring homes either next door or across the street would have known the trio didn't live in the residence and would have caught the boys in the act stealing the rental car and called the authorities.
