Gross Misconduct: The Life of Brian Spencer (1993)

Gross Misconduct: The Life of Brian Spencer

Edit

Factual errors

The young Spencer brothers are portrayed by identical twins. The adult Spencer twins are not identical, like the real Brian and Byron Spencer.
After Brian fights Keith Magnuson it's announced that Spencer is receiving 2 minutes for roughing when it should be 5 minutes for fighting.
The time-line of games has Brian fighting Keith Magnuson of Chicago, and then scoring his first career goal against Detroit. While both facts are true, the game vs Chicago happened more than 2 months after the Detroit match.
It's reported on the radio that Brian is traded to Pittsburgh for Junior prospects. Spencer was actually traded by Buffalo to Pittsburgh for 14 year NHL veteran Ron Schock.
The game that should be on TV as Roy cleans his guns is California at Vancouver with the action being called by Canucks announcer Jim Robson. Instead a Vancouver at Montreal game is being shown with the play-by-play called by Canadiens announcer Danny Gallivan.

Anachronisms

A 1970 bar scene had a cover band singing the song "Smoking in the Boys' Room". The song was first released in 1974 by Brownsville Station.
In the fictional footage of Brian Spencer on the ice, several of his teammates are shown with mustaches. In fact, in the 1970-71 season, Derek Sanderson of the Boston Bruins was the only NHL player with a mustache.
