Sergeant Martin's day begins in a typically ordinary, mundane fashion, but ends in tragedy, a shooting leads to a dramatic series of events.
It's fair to say that some of The Ruth Rendell mysteries suffer from pacing issues, this one doesn't, after a thoroughly dramatic start, it continues in a very strong fashion, an engaging story, with some very interesting characters.
The major annoyance is Sheila's boyfriend, you'd love to send him back, along with the prawn cocktail, why do his daughters have such bad taste in men?
Just to highlight that Dave Kitson's name did appear in the opening credits, I'm sure that counts as a credit?
Very good, 8/10.
