This film was the second Glaser/Hunter Productions project brought to the screen (the first being 'Lust in the Dust (1984)'). Tab Hunter and Allan Glaser were life partners for over 35 years.
Ari Meyers portrays a character named Allison, Allie, as she is often called, in its diminutive form. Allison/Allie has two ties to Meyers' breakthrough role as Emma McArdle on Kate & Allie (1984). First, her "second" mother is the titular Allie Lowell, portrayed by Jane Curtin. And second, Allie's daughter, Jennie Lowell, Emma's "daughter" counterpart and thus surrogate sister, is portrayed by Allison Smith.
Tab Hunter, was an avid horse rider and owner, and was inspired to write this story by an Arabian horse that was used as a double in 'The Black Stallion (1979)'. The horse had broken a leg and spent a full year recuperating in a sling. Although he never walked properly again, when set loose he could run with no problem.
