Brett Ratner sent the film to Steven Spielberg with a letter begging for financing. To Ratner's surprise, he received a check from Speilberg's Amblin Entertainment.

The film was planned to be longer but Mason Reese quit during filming. Anthony Michael Hall was hired to dub all of Reese's lines because Reese refused to do any looping.
Brett Ratner got the idea for this film from meeting Mason Reese on the street. He also happened to meet Michael J. Anderson on the street and cast him in the film.
