Brad Pitt, Jill Schoelen, and Donovan Leitch Jr. in Cutting Class (1989)

Goofs

Cutting Class

Edit

Continuity

The clothes that Paula and Dwight wear in the scene where Paula models for the art class are the same clothes they wear later in the film on the day when Mrs. Knocht is murdered, which takes place after the art teacher's murder. However, in scenes that take place during the day of the art teacher's death, Paula and Dwight wear outfits that are different from those in the modeling scene.
As William Carson III shoots at the duck his hat falls off. Quick cut and the hat is back on. Quick cut and the hat is back off. William Carson III then picks up the hat.
When the paper boy is throwing out the papers, he tosses one of the papers and its obvious that the paper comes apart in the air, but when it hits the ground its intact.
When Paula and the teacher are trying to solve the puzzle to open the right door, the teacher's calculations on the board disappear after he opens the door.
When Schultz (the custodian/janitor) is talking to Dwight and Paula, Dwight is holding Paula's hand with his left hand. When he walks away, it's his right hand that he removes so he can NOW grasp her hand with his left hand.

Factual errors

Sodium metal is a silvery-white metal, not a crystalline rock like the large sample the teacher holds up. Also, sodium metal is stored in mineral oil so that it is not exposed to moisture in the air, as it would react. The large rock shown is dry.

Revealing mistakes

After Colleen takes off her panties prior to leaving the locker room, Mr. Dante and some fans see under her skirt and affirm the fact that she is not wearing any underwear. However, a skin-tone g-string is visible as her skirt flies up.
Obvious rubber "axe" as the math teacher slides down to the floor.

Crew or equipment visible

In the art class scene, when Paula and Brian are holding up the apple, a boom mike is visible.

Character error

When Paula and the teacher are solving the puzzle, the teacher's calculations read "time equals speed divided by distance" when in fact it should be distance divided by speed.
Throughout the movie it is shown that Dwight does not understand the very concept of speed, what it means or how it's calculated. Yet Dwight is an avid car enthusiast and driver. If he does not know what speed is, he would have great trouble driving a car, and would probably be unable to get a driver's license anywhere in the world.
