Michael J. Fox and Sean Penn in Casualties of War (1989)

Goofs

Casualties of War

Edit

Continuity

After a soldier steps on a landmine and dies, other soldiers take a picture of the corpse. Eriksson and another soldier look at the corpse, which now lies on the opposite side of the road.
Meserve's arm position changes when confronting the MP who will not let the group go into town.
When the soldiers are walking the trail and Eriksson tells Cherry to "take it easy, slow down", the explosion of the "toe popper" booby trap happens only a few seconds later and very near to Eriksson who would have been sprayed with "Cherry" splatter from the blast. The camera then shows "Cherry" laying bloody and dead skewered by large spikes through his chest and abdomen.

Revealing mistakes

During the firefight on the bridge, after intense firing, one soldier reaches over to pull another soldier to get started down the bridge by grabbing the muzzle of his gun. That act would create severe burns on his palm.
When the soldiers are shooting the girl on the bridge, she is positioned in a crossfire between three soldiers on one side of her and one soldier on the other side of her. With the number of shots fired, they would all have been shot, if not killed.

Miscellaneous

When the soldiers enter the first village, kids are eating a Hershey bar wrapped in foil with a brown Hershey sleeve. For that time period it should have been a white wax paper wrapper inside the Hershey sleeve.

Anachronisms

Clark sings a line from the Doors song, "Hello, I Love You", to Oanh while marching. "Hello, I Love You" was originally released as a single in June 1968. However, the events portrayed in the film happened in 1966.
At the beginning and end of the movie Eriksson is seen riding in a Boeing SLRV light-rail train on the J Church line in San Francisco. Those trains started running on that line in 1981, but another rider is prominently shown reading a newspaper with a headline about Nixon's resignation, implying the scenes take place some time around August 1974.
The division patch worn on the shoulder is that of the Americal Division (23rd Inf Div), which wasn't reactivated until mid-1967.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

During the bridge scene (around 1:10:00 of the film) Michael J. Fox voice is clearly dubbed by someone with a deeper voice.
