Jodie Foster and Dennis Hopper in Catchfire (1990)

Goofs

Catchfire

Edit

Continuity

After her car breaks down on the highway, Anne is shown walking away without her purse, but after she witnesses the hit and gets a ride in the green VW to the police station, she has her purse again.

Factual errors

When Milo is reading the article on Conceptual Art, the computer screen in front of him displays "social security numbers" with 10 digits instead of the correct 9 digits.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

After Bob is shot several times by the two Mafia men who break into Anne's apartment, the two men pull the blankets back and Bob is still breathing.

Since they didn't use Instant Death Bullets and the breathing was only seconds after the shooting, he did have time for a breath or two before he died.
Dennis Hopper's "lucky gun" is a revolver with a silencer. A silencer doesn't work on a revolver.

It isn't his lucky gun because of the silencer. It's because of the pearl grips. An ineffective silencer doesn't mean it can't be lucky. It just can't be silenced.
When Anne leaves the mountain cabin in his SUV, Milo throws Sno Balls at the car and up in the air then walks away. After she returns to pick Milo up, the Sno Balls are under the SUV. When they leave, the Sno Balls aren't there. When the hit squads arrive, the Sno Balls are not on the ground either.

Probably raccoons or packrats that doubtless live under that old cabin.
When Milo rushes away from the mountain cabin, the car tires make squealing sounds in the loose dirt.

It's not loose dirt - it's a packed gravel road and tires don't know they're only allowed to make "squealing sounds" when on pavement. They will make tire-sounds wherever they are driven.

Revealing mistakes

When Anne and Milo are about to drive off in the SUV, the mountain backdrop is flapping in the wind.
When Anne and Milo drive away in the Jeep as the hit men are approaching the cabin, interior shots show that the rear view mirror has been removed from the windshield, but when they stop and exit the vehicle, the mirror is attached to the windshield.

Rear view mirrors are often removed to give the camera a clear shot.
When Anne gives the envelope to the trucker woman in New Mexico, she asks for it be posted when she gets to Canada explaining that it's for her ex-husband. But when the trucker woman's companion goes to post it, the envelope is clearly addressed to "Margaret".

Miscellaneous

The word sergeant is misspelled "sargeant" in the closing credits.

Crew or equipment visible

When the camera pans up the stairs in Anne's hideout in New Mexico, its shadow is visible on the wall to the left.
The shadow of a cameraman is briefly visible during the opening credits when Anne pulls to the side of the road.

Plot holes

The hidey-hole under the stairs was easily found by Anne and, later, Milo. The searching police, however, miss it totally.
