Appearing as an extra in this film is what made Noomi Rapace want to be an actress. According to Rapace, some of the actors where getting tired after a long day of shooting the wedding scene and asked director Hrafn Gunnlaugsson to call it a day. When he heard this, he pointed at Rapace who was still dancing after hours of filming, and said: "Look, if that little girl can continue, then so can you!" Rapace's stepfather Hrafnkell Karlsson also appears in the film as one of Edda's farmhands. He is the big one with curly hair. Rapace mother, Nina Norén, appears as Edda's older maid - the one who rides.
First Icelandic film to be shot in Cinemascope.
Lead protagonist actress, Tinna Gunnlaugsdóttir, and the main antagonist actor, Egill Ólafsson, are actually married in real life. Not only that, but that actress is the director's sister, meaning that she had to appear semi-nude in front of, and be directed in a love scene by, her own brother.
Many props from the film, like the statues of Odin and Thor, Trausti's father's old helmet and many pieces of costumes where re-used from Hrafninn Flygur.
The original cut was 171 minutes and contained a lot more backstory about the different characters. Hrafn Gunnlaugsson had to shorten the film in order to prevent the producers from taking over the edit themselves to a more commercial length. Hrafn Gunnlaugsson knew did would compromise the film, but has put the blame on himself for not having the discipline to focus better.
