Diane Keaton in Baby Boom (1987)

Goofs

Baby Boom

Edit

Continuity

When J.C. walks into the apartment with the baby and a pack of diapers, she tosses the diapers into a corner. They land on the floor. J.C. sits the baby in a chair and goes into the kitchen. When Steven walks in, the pack of diapers is stacked neatly in the corner under other items.
When J.C. is driving around trying to sell her applesauce, the ground is alternatively snow covered and clean.

Factual errors

J.C. has her groceries delivered to her. Among the items is a bottle of Valium. Valium is a prescription drug and is and was not purchased over the counter or to be delivered as is depicted.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

J.C. Wiatt is a smart, savvy woman and is very detail-oriented, yet she makes a major property purchase without even going to see the property first. This does not make sense.

While a vast majority of people would want to inspect a property before buying it, people, even detail-oriented intelligent ones, sometimes do buy properties sight unseen.
In the voiceover at the beginning it says she graduated first in her class at Yale. She later screams in the snow that she went to Harvard. It actually said in the beginning that she went to both Harvard and Yale.

Revealing mistakes

In the beginning of the film, the narrator states that J.C. has a corner office. When the office appears a few minutes later, it's in the middle, with a window.
The film takes place roughly over a year, but Elizabeth barely ages from the beginning to the end of the film.
When J.C. talks to the plumber at the well, the ground and the nearby trees are covered in snow, but trees in the distance have no snow.
When J.C. arrives at the new house in Vermont, she opens the SUV door and takes the baby out of the car seat without unbuckling her first.
Once J.C. is becoming a hit, in the newspaper's article "BABY BOOM!" by David A. Sangur, her name is misspelled. J.C.'s real last name is Wiatt, but at Sangur's article, it quotes "With her daughter Elizabeth seated on her desk, Country Baby, Incorporated's founder, J.C. Waitt tried to explain the overwhelming success of her new company..." It can be noticed at 1h:24m:24s of the film.

Miscellaneous

The "country bumpkin" couple who want to adopt Elizabeth say they are from Duluth, Minnesota, implying that Duluth is a rural backwards town, when in fact it is a metropolitan area and the largest and busiest port city on Lake Superior.

Plot holes

As Elizabeth was the child of J.C.'s "mother's cousin's daughter's son" (Andrew), it is very unlikely that they would have the same last name, as mentioned when she is reading the will.

Character error

When J.C. is canning applesauce, she puts a lid on the jars and puts them on the shelf. The applesauce will spoil unless the jars sit in boiling water for a few minutes.
When J.C. gets a flat tire on the side of the road, she jacks up the car before loosening the lug nuts.
