Jason Gedrick and Lewis Smith in The Heavenly Kid (1985)

Goofs

The Heavenly Kid

Edit

Continuity

When Bobby says to Emily "I'd like this night to be special", he is clearly holding a photograph in his left hand. He continues to hold the photo as he takes Emily by the hand. In the next cut, they are still holding hands, but the photo has disappeared. No mention is made of the photo in any of these scenes.
When Bobby and Lenny are in the junkyard making over the Belair, we see the paint going on the car from left to right. However when we see Bobby moving his hand to make the car turn red, his hand is moving right to left.
The opening scene is set in the early 1960's. The movie then progresses to present day (1985) and none of the characters from the opening scene (Bobby, Emily, Joe, etc) have aged despite more than 20 years passing.
When Rafferty and Bobby enter the bar in "MidTown", Rafferty moves to the buffet and grabs the top tray that already has a plate, utensils and bread on it.
When Lenny slips and falls down the cliff, Bobby catches him, and Lenny's head is clearly to Bobby's left. In the next frame, the orientation of Lenny has flipped, since his head is now to Bobby's right.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

When Bobby visits the "place of his ultimate demise", the cars are not in the same position as when they were crashed at the beginning of the movie. Most notable is Bobby's car, which is right side up (it flipped on the way down and crashed on its' roof).

Revealing mistakes

When Bobby is carrying Emily upstairs we can clearly see the special effect( matte painting - color blotching). She also passes in front of the downstairs ceiling instead of behind it as she ascends the staircase.
While Emily is looking through her HS yearbook, the camera shows a close-up of the page with Bobby's picture. The names do not completely match the pictures on this page. Specifically, the name entered between Bobby and the girl next to him, Berry Strait. This person is not pictured, but there is a lot of information for him. Charles Martin Stoner - transferred from Beaver High School, Beaver, PA. Also, William Sholze is pictured above, and to the right, of Bobby, but his name is not listed with the rest of the names.
As already noted that the explosions occurred when the roof hit, both cars blew up with a fireball in the interior instead of the fuel tank. Cars do not normally explode on impact, but even if they had, they would not explode in the interior. These are explosives set for dramatic effect. This is typical Hollywood flair as some movies have had cars erroneously blow up while still in midair due to charges going off too early in the scene.
After discovering who Lenny's mother is, Bobby leaves the house and starts wandering the streets looking for Rafferty. All the businesses Bobby passes are still open and doing business, even the street vendors (as seen by the many customers carrying packages, Rafferty is eating a hotdog). While Lenny is being confronted by his parents, the clock behind him shows the time to be almost 10:45pm. It seems unlikely businesses would still be open at that time.
When Bobby's Chevy goes over the cliff and explodes in the opening scene, the explosion occurs as the roof hits the ground, not the engine bay or fuel tank.

Anachronisms

Bobby constantly uses phrases and gestures from the current period in the movie.

Crew or equipment visible

Cable clearly attached to back of the car Lenny was driving after it crashes into the canyon floor at the end of the movie. You can also see this effect at the beginning of the film during the first crash.

Errors in geography

The movie takes place in Florida yet there is a cliff, a large stone quarry, many deciduous trees. Florida's trees would look more subtropical and there would be no cliffs or quarries. There is also a curious lack of palm trees.

Plot holes

The beginning of the film mentions the time period is early 1960s (1960 - 1962) which is when Bobby, who is Lenny's father, dies. However, even the oldest high school student in mid-1980s (1985 in this case) would have been born in the mid-to-late 1960s (1966 - 1968).
As Bobby is helping Lenny climb back up the cliff, Lenny accidentally steps on Bobby's hand. Bobby reacts as though this hurts his hand. Being an Angel, Bobby should not feel pain.

Character error

Lenny is not wearing a hat or hair net while cooking in Max's kitchen.
While Melissa would have read the order to Lenny, she would not have left with the ticket. The ticket would have been hung for reference while making the order.
Everyone refers to it as the train, but Bobby says he has to get on the subway.
