Coyote the swindler, Weld the victim
teleadm-persson14 July 2006
Not a plot is given not even a review! How interesting, I've never done a first before. This made-for-TV movie was made in 1984, so it must been around 1985-1986 I must have seen it. (Swedish TV have always been late). I cannot give any spoilers away, since I cannot remember how it ended. I remember it as a very well made TV-movie, nothing spectacular, but with a good storyline. As I remember: Weld and Coyote meet, fall in love, move together, she trusts him, one day he is gone, with all money, he's disappeared into thin air. She is depressed, but slowly builds up a way how to make a revenge, on her way to revenge she crosses path with Keith Carradine, who s a brother of one of Coyotes victims, so both Keith and Weld joins in cracking Coyote. Weld playing a victim was a bit unusual. How they succeeded has totally slipped my mind. There was one very strong scene that I still remember: Long after Weld was swindled, she one day see Coyote walking in the different direction, she looks at him, he just casts a quick glance, as if she was anybody, because he might have swindled so many he doesn't recognize any of his older victims.

Interesting True Story
khmb19 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Based on the case of Giovanni Vigliotto (born Fred Jiff), a serial bigamist and former mental patient who married and conned over 100 women. Here he is played by Peter Coyote, and Tuesday Weld plays the character based on Patricia Ann Gardiner, who was robbed of $36,000 by Vigliotto and successfully tracked him down and launched the court case which eventually saw him convicted of fraud and bigamy. He died in prison in 1991, age 61.

The lead actors are OK, and among the good supporting cast Susan Ruttan, as Weld's friend Margie, and Oscar Rowland, as a crabby clergyman, are especially fine.

Scorned And Swindled is an excellent shocking television movie

Warning: Spoilers
Scorned And Swindled is an excellent and shocking made for television movie.I just watched this movie again a couple of days ago, and I forgot how good it is.The cast,Tuesday Weld, Peter Coyote,Keith Carradine, and Sheree North and others are excellent.Tuesday Weld was so good as the lady who found herself in a very bad situation.Sheree North was very effective as the mother of Tuesday Weld's character who was trying to figure out what was she going to do.Now Peter Coyote was wonderful as the smooth talking, handsome, charming, con artist.I try to imagine myself in this situation and it makes me cringe to think that this could happen to anyone. The part of the movie that fascinated me the most was when Peter Coyote's character did not even recognize Tuesday Weld's character when she caught up with him because he had conned and left so many women in his lifetime. This is a must see for people who like good movies.I recommend this one to movie fans.I have this movie.

The World of Antiques, Flea Markets, Crooks
poetcomic122 April 2012
I've seen this twice and would love to see it five more times. It is based on a true story about a man who wooed and married over FIFTY women to rob them and split. His favorite victims were women who owned antique shops and he would clean them out. The older Tuesday Weld is a superb actress here and Sheree North is a heartbreaking and wonderful. The Wendkos direction is superior throughout.

As someone who used to do the flea markets, cherry-pick the stock and wheel and deal... the portrayal of that world was sheer heaven for me and wonderfully realistic. There is a great scene at a flea mart where Weld as the swindled and almost broke antique dealer, spends her last few bucks buying and selling carnival glass, dishes and anything under-priced she can spot.

For those who are fans of the 'antique reality shows' it is a classic scene!

I'd LOVE to own the DVD of this.
