**SPOILERS** Based on the late Lacey Fusbrug's 1977 true crime shocker "Closing Time" the movie "Trackdown" starts where the Academy Award nominated film "Looking for Mr. Goodbar left off. In "Trackdown" we already know who murdered Mary Noland, Marke Johnson, almost as soon as it began; The bi-sexual street hustler John Charles Turner,Shannon Presby. What we find out is how Turner stupidly made the NYPD search for him as easy as it could be, capturing him in less then two weeks after he murdered Mary, by shooting his big mouth off to his gay and middle age roommate as well as benefactor,whom he mercilessly leached off, Alan Chaill,Barton Heyman.
Alan in checking Turner's boastful claim that he murdered this girl, Mary Alice Noland, that he picked up at the West 72nd street Teawds Bar on New Years Eve, This had Alan, who gave Turner money to check out of town, call her home only to have the NYPD detective John Grafton, George Segal, who's on the murder case answer the phone. And even more damaging to Alan, as well as his now estranged boyfriend John Turner, Grafton taped the conversation with him not telling Alan that Mary was murdered! Despite the police picking up and booking for Mary's murder local ex-convict Trick Johnson, Bo Rucker, Grafton is quite sure that Trick,despite Mary reporting him for slapping her around some six months earlier, had nothing to do with it! The men that Mary was alway seen with,in and out of her apartment, didn't quite fit Trick's description: They were white and Trick is black!
**SPOILERS**** Finally with Alan's, who's facing hard time behind bars if he doesn't cooperate, help the NYPD track Turner down to Indiana at his bros, or brother's, house where his pregnant wife, Dustyn Taylor,is staying. The local cops together with Grafton trick Turner in thinking that Alan is calling long distance from New York to Indiana or really Greenpoint Brooklyn where the scene actually takes place due to the movies budget restraints. A heart broken Alan, who didn't want to do it but had to, has his good friend John Turner not only confess to Mary Noland's murder but brag about it as if it was something great, in getting away with her murder, that he accomplish in his life. This with the police recording every world of his "Confession" on tape to use against the brainless jerk in a court of law!
P.S As it turned out the real life John Charles Turner murder case, based on the real Mr. Goodbar killer John Wayne Wilson,never went to trail with him committing suicide, by hanging himself with a bed sheet, in his jail cell some five months after he was captured. As for Turner's-or Wilson's-pregnant wife she gave birth just days after his suicide, in fact the day he was buried, with the new born child being DOD or dead on delivery!
