Dan Aykroyd, Fran Drescher, Donna Dixon, Lynn Whitfield, and Lydia Lei in Doctor Detroit (1983)

Goofs

Doctor Detroit

Edit

Continuity

Doctor Detroits hands are in a different position between shots. When he initially jumps aboard the tow truck, he uses the side-view mirror as a handle. In the next cut, he is shown holding on to the window frame.
The windshield glass Doctor Detroit breaks is shown inconsistently between shots. Sometimes the glass is very dirty, almost opaque, in other shots it is very clear.
The passenger side mirror on the tow truck is in a different position before (collapsed against the door) and after (away from the door) the doctor jumps aboard.
During the initial encounter between Cliff and Mom in the hotel suite, Cliff's tie changes position as the shot changes. The tie is over his arm when shot from behind, but hanging straight down during frontal shots.
Doctor Detroit's upraised arm/hand do not exactly match the cut-out left as the tow truck smashes through the fence.

Factual errors

Diavolo refers to Doctor Detroit's lime green pants. They were emerald green, not lime green.
The Indian restaurant where they are eating in an early scene is called "Khyber India" but Khyber is actually in Pakistan on the border of Afghanistan. (Pakistan was once part of India, but it was partitioned in 1947 while under British rule.)

It's the kind of deliberate Easter egg that Dan Aykroyd loves to pepper into his films, to see if anyone catches them.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

At the party Karen and Diavolo are making Indian cuisine using menu items from Kentucky Fried Chicken and Arby's Roast Beef. If it were truly Indian cuisine, the Arby's food items would not be consumed due to Hindu beliefs against eating beef.

WRONG: Many Indian restaurants in North America serve beef dishes and just because Hindus abstain from eating beef, does not mean that Sikhs or Muslims do so as well.

Revealing mistakes

Missing passenger side mirror from Smooths' limo when Clifford exits, the morning after his initial meeting with Smooth.
Initially, the cable Doctor Detroit uses to escape the junk cars avalanche is much shorter and of a different configuration than the cable he uses to ride along the graveyard (obvious prop).
Handle on the passenger-side roof of the tow truck, not duplicated on the drivers-side of the roof (obvious prop). A low camera angle used to conceal the prop.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

Much of the audio doesn't match Diavolo's lips in the limo surround scenes.

Errors in geography

Smooth books a one-way flight to the Cook Islands, then local service to Roratonga. In fact the Cook Islands international airport is *on* Roratonga.

Character error

In the courtroom scene, Cliff is spinning this wild yarn about his and Thema's family in Louisiana and uses the word 'county'; Louisiana uses parishes, not counties.
