Sigourney Weaver, Chevy Chase, and Gregory Hines in Deal of the Century (1983)

Goofs

Deal of the Century

Edit

Continuity

The open faced pilots helmet that Ray is carrying as he inspects the fighter jet at the arms show is completely different from the close faced one he's wearing when he's flying that same jet a few minutes later.
When Eddie is in the trailer talking to Ray on the radio, he's wearing the headset with the microphone on the left side. In the next shot, it's on the right side.
As the Peacemaker is rolled into position for the maiden public flight, a technician reaches for wheel chocks as the trailer stops. The next scene shows the wheel chocks already in place, and the technician walking past the trailer.
Ray's confrontation with the Chicano Man appears out of sequence. In the previous scene, Ray has already unloaded the flame thrower from his car, and is seen to be cleaning it.
The Chicano Man breaks the same passenger-side window from Ray's Porsche twice.

Revealing mistakes

At the Peacemaker roll-out. Stryker as well as the technicians commented on the hot weather. Yet, you can see Stryker's breath at the podium (indicating cold weather) just before the Peacemaker attacks.
Ray begins studying the specs of the Peacemaker on an inclined table (drafting table) facing a wall. In two consecutive scenes, the camera shots are from the side (since a wall is directly in front of Ray). In several following cuts, Ray is seen sitting at a kitchen table, allowing the camera to shoot Ray from the front. It is possible Ray moved all of the study materials from one table to the other, but it seems clear this was done to facilitate the frontal shot.
When Harold DeVoto punches the wall outside his hotel room, the entire wall shakes (obvious fake wall).

Miscellaneous

Closed captioning erroneously identifies the company Luckup as "LUCHUP" repeatedly, apparently misreading the company name when shown with a plane's trail cutting through the letters slightly above center, particularly where embroidered on the back of jackets.

Errors in geography

San Miguel is stated (by Masaggi) as a neighboring country of Costa Rica. While Eddie Muntz is being robbed on Christmas Eve, both he and the Robber Man show breath (indicating cold weather). The average low temp for Costa Rica is 68 degrees, far to warm to show breath condensation.

Boom mic visible

Boom mic visible in the upper right corner as Massagi gets up off the couch during his meeting with Eddie aboard the airplane.

Character error

Catherine DeVoto is shown wearing the same clothes (black skirt, white top, leather boots) on consecutive days of the Arms Show.
