Cujo (1983)

Goofs

Cujo

Edit

Continuity

The blood and mud spots from Cujo jumping on the car change from scene to scene, in some cases disappearing completely.
When Vic picks Tad up at his camp, we see Tad dip his finger in paint and begin finger painting. He then sees his dad and runs to him and gives him a hug and there is no paint on either of his hands or his dad's suit.
Cujo goes from short hair to long hair and back.
When Vic is working on the Pinto and Tad is leaning on the front passenger's side quarter panel talking to him, the hood is up when the camera is on Vic, but down when the camera is on Tad.

Factual errors

The postman's mail jeep is all blue. At the time of the film's production, US mail vehicles were white over blue, until about 1983 when they were all painted solid white.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

When the cop is driving up to the house, they show the mailbox door open with mail in it, but earlier at the post office, they state that there has been a halt put on mail delivery. However, the flag on the mailbox is up, indicating that that mail in the box is outgoing.

Revealing mistakes

Several shots during the opening scene appear to show the lighter portions of Cujos fur stained red. This suggests that these shots were filmed after later portions of the film.
At the beginning of the movie, Cujo runs after a rabbit and it goes into a cave of bats. Cujo sticks its head in the hole, and bats fly around. Watch the top right hand corner when one bat is flying around, just before he gets bitten, and you can see the string that is holding it up.
When Cujo attacks a cop in the hallway of the house, his tail has obviously been strapped to one of his legs.
When Cujo initially attacks the Pinto, the car's passenger window shatters completely, but does not break. The tempered glass in all automotive side and rear windows does not have the thin plastic layer in it that keeps it intact when struck (as windshields have), and this type of glass will shatter into tiny pieces and disintegrate on impact. This is demonstrated when Mrs. Trenton uses the butt of the sheriff's revolver to shatter the Pinto's glass rear hatch, which is made of the same type of glass.
When Donna and Tad are in the car, Tad begs his mom to try turning on the car again. You can see Tad cross his fingers before Donna asks him to.

Crew or equipment visible

During the first night that Cujo has Donna and Tad trapped in the car, Cujo becomes enraged by the ringing phone and crashes through the window to attack it. When the phone stops ringing, Cujo remains in the window, and you can see the trainer's hand come up and pull the dog down from the window.
When Vic is at the elevator, about to leave the hotel, and Roger is talking to him, one or two crew members are reflected in the picture hanging on the wall next to the elevator.
The scene where the dog goes through the window when the phone rings you can see a visible hand come up and pull on the dog.
When Donna finally breaks the Pinto's rear window, the gun wobbles as if made of rubber.
When the camera is turning around Donna who is standing by the car when she arrives at Camber's house with Tad, the light appears from the space in between boards of the garage gate. It looks like something that was blocking it was removed, and it's too high to be Cujo.

Boom mic visible

When Donna is running toward the house, the boom mic clearly comes in front of the camera in the top right hand portion of the screen.
