Mel Gibson in Attack Force Z (1981)

Goofs

Attack Force Z

Edit

Factual errors

When the dead Japanese soldiers are trucked back to their base, despite only being seen from the rear, the truck used is clearly a modern (to when the movie was made) truck as opposed to a World War Two era truck.

Revealing mistakes

Near the end of the film, Captain Kelly (Mel Gibson) picks up a heavy machine gun that the Japanese have been using and grips the barrel with his left hand while firing at the enemy. Realistically the barrel would have been much too hot to hold. The machine gun also appears to be of American manufacture, not Japanese. This machine gun is a Browning 30 caliber machine, otherwise called a light machine gun. A heavy machine gun would have been the much larger 50 caliber.
Near the beginning of the film, when the team lands on the beach and hides the canoes, the sunlight changes back and forth from morning twilight to full sunshine.
During the opening sequence, the submarine dropping the commandos off is a post-war Oberon-class submarine of the RAN, which is much larger and constructed much differently to its WWII equivalent. Assembled Folboats (collapsable canoes) are also brought onto deck, when in reality they would have been brought through the sail disassembled, then assembled on deck prior to departure.

Anachronisms

The senior Japanese Officer is first seen wearing what appears to be the insignia of a Colonel, but thereafter wears the insignia of a Captain. The Junior Japanese Officer throughout wears the insignia of a Corporal when he was clearly meant to be a 2nd Lieutenant.
