Robert De Niro and Robert Duvall in True Confessions (1981)

Goofs

True Confessions

Edit

Continuity

During the autopsy of porn actress Lois Fazenda, her eyes shift from looking up, then down slightly, then more wide-eyed from one shot to another.
The character listed in the credits as Sonny McDonough is called Sonny O'Meara by Tom Spellacy when he and Des are having lunch in the restaurant.
When Tom Spellacy is in his office, talking on the phone, the handset switches from hand to hand between shots.
When Tom and Des are driving in Tom's car, the obvious rear projection behind Tom repeats itself (man standing at fence, turning corner, truck passing).
When the brothers discuss at the lunch counter Des's prior meeting of Lois Fazenda, the napkin which Thomas crumples in his hands suddenly appears on the counter on the reverse angle shot, then is back in his hands again as the scene ends.

Factual errors

The Catholic Rosary ends with the prayer Hail! Holy Queen, then the Sign of the Cross. Desmond did neither of these in his radio broadcast.

Revealing mistakes

When Tom takes off his radiator cap after his car overheats, what looks like a chunk of dry ice shoots out of the radiator.
At the beginning, the deceased priest lying on the bed can be seen in several shots breathing.

Anachronisms

When the detectives are taking the crime scene photographs, the photographer is using a "Super Speed Graphic". This model of the classic Speed Graphic was not produced until 1956, although this part of the story takes place in February 1948.

Character error

When Tom is on the phone with the self-described psychic, he repeats that she's from Guin, Alabama. He pronounces it "GOO-in," when the name of the town is actually pronounced "gween" or, less commonly, "gu-WEEN."
