- A lottery ticket changes the lives of four friends.
- Naseeb, a story of destiny and fate, begins with a lottery ticket. A drunk who cannot pay his tab trades his 'winning' ticket to the waiter, Namdev (Pran), instead. Namdev decides to share this ticket with his three friends Damu (Amjad Khan), Raghu (Kader Khan) and Jaggi (Jagdish Raj). But when it turns out to actually be a winner, Damu and Ragu turn on the other two, murdering Jaggi and framing Namdev. Namdev goes on the run but Raghu and Damu intervene and throw him over a bridge into a river and Namdev is presumed dead. However he is rescued by a don (Amrish Puri) but no one is aware he is alive. Fast forward to ten years later - Damu and Raghu have used their stolen lottery money to build a fabulous hotel and make millions becoming very successful businessmen. Damu has used a share of his money to send his only son, Vicky (Shatrughan Sinha) to school in England. They have even employed Namdev's oldest son Johnny (Amitabh Bachchan), Vicky's best friend, as a waiter in the hotel. By coincidence (or by fate!) Johnny and Vicky who are the best of friends fall in love with the same beautiful singer, Miss Asha (Hema Malini). Julie (Reena Roy) is a childhood friend of Vicky's who is in love with Vicky, but he only sees her as a friend. When Johnny discovers this, he and Julie sacrifice their own love to ensure that Vicky and Asha get together. At the same time, John's younger brother Sunny (Rishi Kapoor) has fallen for Asha's younger sister, Kim (Kim). Kim and Asha also happen to be the daughters of Jaggi, the man Namdev supposedly murdered. Namdev returns soon after and plans to take revenge against Damu and Raghu for separating him from his two sons Johnny and Sunny. - Four friends Namdev, Ravhuvir, Damodar and Jaggi spend most of their time in each other company. Namdev is employed as a waiter at a local liquor joint; one day one of the customer is unable to pay his bill and all he have in his possession is a lottery ticket. He offers Namdev this ticket to which Namdev accept; Namdev then pass this ticket on to Jaggi and to his luck he manages to win. Greed then overcomes Damodar and Ravhuvir forcing them to kill Jaggi and frame Namdev for this killing. When they find Namdev attempt to rebel over the situation they throws him overboard thus he is believed to be dead. Years passed by with Ravhuvir and Damodar now managing a hotel where-by Namdev eldest son, John is employed as a waiter while he partakes as a part-time boxer to educate his younger brother, Sunny abroad. Ravhuvir's sons Ashok and Raghu manage their father's illegal businesses while Damodar's son, Vicky stays abroad. - Namdev works in a restaurant as a waiter. One day a customer is unable to pay, as all he has is a lottery ticket. Namdev accepts it, and to his delight he wins. He decides to share this windfall with three of his friends namely Ravhuvir, Damodar, and Jaggi. Greed for their newfound wealth embitters them against each other, and Jaggi gets killed - and Namdev gets arrested and charged for killing him, and is subsequently sentenced to a long jail term. Damodar and Raghuvir invest the money and become millionaires. Years later Namdev is released from prison, and finds out while his two friends and their respective sons have been living a wealthy lifestyle, his very family is poor, and a son of his, Ravi, is employed as a waiter in a hotel. Enraged he goes to confront them, they pacify him and offer some money so that they live comfortably. It is then that Namdev comes across evidence that it was not he who killed Jaggi - but one of two of his friends. Using a system of drawing out the highest card to decide who keeps the ticket, Jaggi wins, and the ticket stays with him. Namdev has three wife's (One Hindu, one christian and one Muslim) who have gone away for a few days. Mrs. Gomes (Lalita Pawar) is the nanny and her daughter is Julie (Reena Roy).. Namdev's son John is best friends with Damu's son Vicky.. His youngest son is Sunny (Rishi Kapoor).. Their location is hit by a earthquake and only Mrs Gomes survives with the 3 kids.
When the ticket turns out to be a winner, Damu and Raghu turn on the other two, murdering Jaggi and framing Namdev (Damu Takes Raghu's photos as he murders Jaggi). Namdev goes on the run, but Raghu and Damu intervene (they pretend to rescue him in their car) and throw him over a bridge into a river. Namdev is presumed dead. However, he is rescued by Don (Amrish Puri), and no one is aware he is alive.

They have even employed Namdev's oldest son Johnny (Amitabh Bachchan), Vicky's best friend, as a waiter in the hotel. Still every year Johnny sends a Mawa cake to his friend Vicky on his birthday. Raghu's sons are Prem (Prem Chopra) and Ashok (Shakti Kapoor). In London Vicky was gambling a lot and beat up Zabisco (Yusuf Khan), the manager of the casino when he insulted Johnny's cake (Zabisco was cross since Vicky had won a lot of money and refused to play further)
By coincidence (or by fate!) Johnny and Vicky fall in love with the same beautiful singer, Miss Asha (Hema Malini). Vicky saves Asha in London from her ad manager, who wanted her to wear a bikini. Vicky wants to date Asha, but she declines. The next day, Vicky sees masked goons entering Asha's boat as she tours the river. Vicky saves Asha again, but the goons allege that Vicky paid them to make him look like a hero. Later Vicky finds that this was arranged by the ad manager, who wanted revenge on Vicky. Vicky is head over heels in love with Asha, and is distraught when he believes that Asha is now forever lost to him. He starts drinking heavily.
Asha returns to Bombay. She is signed to sing at the hotel by Damu, but Ashok wants his own girlfriend to be signed instead. He attacks Asha in the garage, but Johnny saves her, as he defeats Ashok and his goons. Asha is further impressed when she learns that Johnny participates in bare knuckle fights with his bookie Mehboob Bhai (Mukri), to fund the education of his younger brother Sunny. Asha falls in love with Johnny. At the same time, Johnny's younger brother Sunny (Rishi Kapoor) (who studies at a boarding school) has fallen for Asha's younger sister, Kim (Kim Yashpal). Kim and Asha happen to be the daughters of Jaggi, the man Namdev supposedly murdered.
Damu and Raghu, also work on growing and distributing drug. But since Vicky is returning to India Damu tells Raghu that he will be shutting down the illegal part of the business. He wants Vicky to be kept away from all this. Damu kills mob boss K. K. (Om Shivpuri), when he threatens Damu to control his son..
Julie (Reena Roy) is a childhood friend of Vicky's who is in love with him, but he only sees her as a friend. Johnny discovers that Vicky is drinking as he is in love with Asha and cant find her. Johnny and Julie sacrifice their own love to ensure that Vicky and Asha get together. Johnny gets Asha to visit his home, via a letter from Mrs Gomes. Asha sees that Johnny had professed his love to Julie (and was even engaged to her), but now was after Asha due to her wealth and money. Asha slaps Johnny and goes away, not realizing that this was all a charade. Vicky also witnesses this, and Johnny antagonizes him by saying his friendship with Vicky was due to the fact that he was a rich kid.. Vicky is disgusted and leaves with Asha.
Johnny now takes to drinking and Sunny returns from college to take care of him. Damu goes to Asha's house to ask for her hand in marriage for Vicky. He finds Sunny there with Kim and realizes that Sunny is Johnny's brother and Namdev's son. He makes fun of Asha's mom that she is getting her daughter married to the son of her husband's murderer.
Meanwhile Namdev is alive and works for Don, whose son is Zabisco. Don is informed of KK's death at the hands of Damu and Namdev is sent to deal with them. Namdev returns to India taking Don's identity. Namdev runs to Mrs Gomes, but she has an accident falling from the bus, in her excitement. Raghu & Damu get the news that Namdev is alive and is impersonating Don.
Vicky wants Johnny to marry Julie. Julie overhears this and jumps into a lake to commit suicide. Sunny and Kim save her. Vicky and Asha realize what Johnny and Julie have done for their sake. Vicky and Johnny again become best friends and Asha is now with Johnny. Vicky wants to marry Julie, but Damu forbids it. This is when Raghu and his sons attack Damu's house as they wanted revenge against Damu for stopping their drugs income. Namdev intervenes and abducts Ashok. When Vicky and Johnny follow the car (thinking they are following Ashok), they get into a crash and Namdev takes Vicky with him. Johnny gets into the car boot and follows Namdev to his house, where he is also hosting Mrs Gomes. Namdev discovers Johnny and attacks him, but is stopped by Mrs Gomes, who reveals that Johnny is Namdev's elder son.
Damu is angry and confronts Raghu and reveals that he will now take the photos of Raghu killing Jaggi to the police. Prem intervenes, stabs Damu and throws him off the building. Damu falls on a fruit truck and is rescued by Sunny. Damu dies giving the photo evidence to Sunny. Prem captures Sunny. Namdev calls Raghu and reveals that Ashok is in his custody. Raghu reveals that he has sunny. An exchange is arranged at the revolving restaurant.
Don intervenes and takes Namdev aside. He says that Namdev has to go to Hong Kong and turn himself to the police, who is looking for Don. If Namdev refuses, he will kill his kids and destroy the evidence of his innocence. Namdev agrees and sends Johnny, Sunny and Vicky home. Don then tells Raghu that when the 3 men reach home, Zabisco will kill them. But Mrs Gomes warns them, before Zabisco kills her. The 3 girlfriends intervene and save their guys.
The trio infiltrate the revolving restaurant with their girlfriends and the climax ensues. A fire breaks out and Zabisco is the first to die. Ashok goes next. Don is set on fire and falls to his death. Vicky kills Raghu and Prem. The boys and Namdev escape via a zip line that was put by the fire department from the next building.
