Ronnie Barker in Porridge (1979)

Goofs

Porridge

Edit

Continuity

During the football game, all shots of the game itself are in heavy overcast weather. Shots of Fletcher, the Governor and the substitute bench, however, occur with a clear blue sky behind them and the sun in their eyes.
Hedley and Fletch are playing draughts, and in the long shot Fletch surreptitiously moves Hedley's 'king' as the old man says he doesn't like the look of Beal. The shot tightens, and Fletch repeats his illegal move.

Factual errors

Even in a Category C (medium to low-security) Prison, a bus being driven out would surely have been checked and searched before being allowed through.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

If, as Harry Grout clearly states, Bill Oakes is "halfway through a twelve stretch for armed robbery" and he has "kept his nose clean", then Oakes must surely know that under UK law he will be released on parole after serving half his sentence. His escape plan is superfluous.
HM Prison Slade's interiors looks a bit different from the TV series since they were filmed in a real jail, HMP Chelmsford, which was empty at the time. The prison interiors in the series were filmed in Ealing Studios, on a specially created set.

Miscellaneous

In the kitchen scene, when P.O.Beale (Christopher Godwin) tries to help Mackay, he catches his coat on the lid of the saucepan and has to quickly undo it to continue the scene.
At the very beginning of the film Barraclough tells Prison Officer Beale that there is no village anywhere close to Slade Prison, that it is "in the middle of nowhere". Later, the bus driver tells Mr McKay that he has to refuel the bus, and McKay tells him that there is a petrol station "in the village a few miles down the road". It cannot be both.*Beale asks Barrowclough 'where the nearest town is', not village.
Fletcher says Mr. Mackay sneezed his dentures into the curry but only his hat is seen to fall into the vat.

Character error

Godber declares that the model aircraft he's constructing is a Spitfire, but it's clearly a P51 Mustang.
When Fletcher reluctantly becomes the trainer he says that he is a lifelong Leyton Orient fan. In the TV series he supports Tottenham Hotspur.
Slade prison is in Cumberland, close to the Scottish border but when Fletcher and Godber are running away from the farm after escaping, the farmer who shouts at them, has a west country accent.
