Some scenes take place in a bar where alcohol is served or consumed.
Boss Hogg is often seen smoking with a cigar in his mouth.
Some episodes involve illegal drugs and alcohol being manufactured and smuggled. Usually these activities are done by the "bad guys" but the dukes are often caught up in the schemes and end up breaking the law themselves although it is usually done by accident or in the pursuit of justice.
The Duke and Hogg family used to produce and distribute an illegal whisky known as moonshine before the show begins. But moonshine and distilleries still show up frequently during the show and is often being illegally distilled and transported but rarely consumed.

Some scenes of peril involving the "bad guys" can be intense and disturbing to some viewers. These scenes are found throughout the series but more frequently in the later seasons. The show has some genuinely intimidating "bad guys" and that combined with scenes of danger that are completely devoid of humor means that some episodes may be too much for younger audiences.
Most of the episodes involve people pointing and sometimes shooting guns and other weapons at other people and these scenes can be intense.
