The movie was nominated in three categories at the Hastings Bad Cinema Society's inaugural 1st Stinkers Bad Movie Awards in 1978. These included 'Worst On-Screen Couple' for Joseph Brooks and Shelley Hack and 'Worst Sense of Direction (Stop them before they direct again!)' for director Joseph Brooks. The movie in the end took home one gong which was for Worst Picture for producer Joseph Brooks who had been nominated in all three of the film's nominations. The Bad Stinker's Expansion Project in 2003 gave the picture further nominations for 'Worst Actress' for Shelley Hack and two nominations for 'Worst Song Or Song Performance in a Film or Its End Credits' for both the "California" and "If Ever I See You Again" tunes.
This movie has never been released on DVD or Blu Ray disc but it was released on home video cassette during the 1980s.
About at least half a dozen cast and crew worked on You Light Up My Life (1977) and If Ever I See You Again (1978) including actors Jerry Keller and Ed Morgan the latter of whom was also an assistant director and associate producer onYou Light Up My Life (1977). Joseph Brooks was the director, conductor and composer on both films. Also serving on both productions, also from the music department, were David Nadien and assistant conductor Jeffrey Benjamin Brooks. Malcolm Addey acted in If Ever I See You Again (1978) playing a recording engineer a role he actually performed on You Light Up My Life (1977).
