A most unusual and non-pretentious film!
splozzles1 February 2012
If this 1978 film had been made exactly as it appears in the 1920s (soon after this true story occurred), in Japanese and dubbed into English, and made by the same Japanese team, it would have won an Oscar (if it existed) in the Best Foreign Film category! By today's standards, it may appear amateurish, the "acting" may not be brilliant. But this is a truly NON-Pretentious film, covering a very difficult subject. In that light, it is highly recommended, and I fail to understand why World Wide Pictures (which didn't actually make the film, but seem to own the rights) have so far refused to release it on DVD "world-wide" !!

Soul searching drama of one man's quest to be a Christian in early 20th century Japan
phutchi611 May 2000
Inspired by his Bible believing girlfriend who is bedridden the main character begins a quest to understand God and to be identified with Christ. Challenged by an old street preacher he tries to "love his neighbor as himself". The neighbor turns out to be a thieving co worker exiled to a remote station. Follow this stirring tale as the hero makes the ultimate sacrifice to show God's love.
