Goofs

In the sequence with Tanner on the motorcycle with a female mannequin in the desert with the giant scorpions, in some shots it is a real woman instead of a mannequin on the motorcycle with Tanner.

Although the rocket launchers do not appear to be auto-reloading, multiple rockets are fired from each launcher, during the fight at Ellen's Cafe'.

Tanner states before agreeing to join the vehicle convoy, "as long as I don't have to re-enlist." Tanner was an officer, they are commissioned and would not refer to it as "re-enlisting."

In the opening scenes when the missile officers are getting their sidearms from Keegan, it shows Keegan wearing a missile badge (known as a "pocket rocket") on his uniform and in a later scene he is wearing a security police badge on the same pocket.

Major Denton states it's been two years since the attack, but expects the gas to be viable. Gas loses its stability within a few months.

Despite the windows being broken at the cafe, the items inside aren't covered in layers of dust.

When Keegan looks through his telescope at the girl Tanner threw off his bike and left for the giant scorpions, it's obviously a dummy.

The joke of this scene is that Tanner has brought back a dummy. There is a continuity error earlier on when it is obviously a real woman on the back of the bike, however this was likely an intentional error to make the audience think it is a person instead of a mannequin.

After Tanner and Denton launch their missiles, they then leave the missile launch room and a few moments later are seen in the missile command center. ICBM launch crews would never leave their posts even after firing their missiles, and had instructions to remain on site until relieved or until they were able to exit the silo complex about 2 weeks after an attack. The missile command centers were also miles away from the launch silos, and the two would never have been able to get back to the command center so quickly.

As the blue sky was often used to 'key' the optical effects for much of the film, when the camera panned or moved upwards, it resulted in the special effects moving with the camera and/or revealing clear blue sky elsewhere in the shot.

In the casino, where there is no power, the fruit machines all have lit up glass panels on the front.

Despite undergoing enough environmental damage to turn most of the country into a desert, complete with mesas near Michigan, several shots feature fully intact telephone poles with wires still strung between them.

After the encounter with the four radiation sickness survivors, the Landmaster drives alongside a body of water. What should be a reflection of the sky on the water isn't - it's a continuation of the blue-screen sky effects.

Same cars in different places during the 'killer cockroach' scene set in Salt Lake City (i.e. Fiat 124 Sport seen at the garage, multi-storey car-park & parked outside a department store on the street when Tanner & Janice go 'shopping' on his bike).

Tanner's voice does not match his lips several times whilst riding through the junkyard.

Several times during the flood, the voice audio is incorrect or missing completely.

The tracks to the vehicle holding the camera can be clearly seen when the transports first leave.

Major Denton says they can get the repair part they need in Detroit, but Detroit was one of the cities called out as being nuked earlier in the movie.
