Throughout the series and regularly in later seasons, car crashes were shown involving vehicles getting airborne after rear-ending another vehicle. This does not happen in actual crashes. In some scenes the ramps used to launch the vehicles are visible.
None of the Female CHP Officers (including trainees) wear the white undershirts under their uniforms that they should have. Keeping them bare chested under the uniform shirts was clearly done to make the female stars more provocative.
Throughout the series the characters are shown performing duties outside the scope of those of the CHP, including patrolling city streets and conducting investigations that in reality are handled by local police and sheriff's departments.
In countless motor vehicle accidents throughout the series, the collisions can be predicted by the preexisting skid marks on the road surface. It is unclear if these were from previous takes of the crash or used as marks to help the stunt drivers, but could be a combination of both.
Sgt. Getraer seems to handle most of the administrative duties at the Central station, as lieutenants and captains are usually only mentioned, but rarely seen.
In many of the car chases and simple traveling on the highways, the same cars can be seen in many shots. In such instances, you can see the same yellow Ford hatchback, the same yellow Trans AM, an orange Volkswagen Bug with gray primer paint on it, and a silver Honda Civic. The Civic is also sometimes seen pulled over by Ponch or Jon.
Harlan Arliss is the mechanic at the CHP station, but he wears a necktie and a crisp white lab coat that is never stained with oil or grease. The world's cleanest mechanic.
