Rollerball (1975)

Goofs

Rollerball

Edit

Continuity

In the New York game, #9 is left off Houston's board, supposedly out of respect for Moonpie. However, another player is seen on the track wearing the Houston #9 shirt during the game.
in the New York game, #3 is seen after he goes "off the board" (riding motorcycle 2) and #2 is also seen in the same manner later in the game.
At the beginning of the Madrid game, there is a shot of the crowd just after Jonathan E. takes possession of the ball for the first time. The scoreboard is visible in the shot reading 1-0 Houston, even though neither team has scored yet.
When Jonathan E. is instructing other players, the rear shot of one particular player shows him leaning back resting on his elbows, while the front shot shows him leaning back on the palms of his hands.
In the Madrid game, #9 for Madrid is seen taken off the scoreboard (injured or dead) early in the game, yet a player wearing that jersey number shows up at least three more times during that game.

Factual errors

Only one arena was used, but for the game that was supposed to be set in Tokyo, the scoreboard still showed "HOU" as the first team. The scoreboard protocol for the game already shows that visiting teams are listed first.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

At the beginning of the New York game, after many moments in the film where different characters have repeated that there would have been "no time limit", the scoreboard shows the countdown (starting from 20.00).

This is not actually a goof, as the game was still going to have 20-minute periods, but there was going to be no limit to the number of periods, hence "no time limit".

Revealing mistakes

Many close-up shots of the actors during the game sequences reveal in the background that the arena is empty.
Some of the footage in Jonathan's multivision retrospective is from the Houston-New York game at the end of the film, right down to using the same exact shot of the burning player that appears later.
In the Tokyo game, when the Houston players line up to slow the other team, two adjacent Houston bikers both wear jersey #3.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

During the Tokyo game, after Moonpie has been hit, Jonathan E. yells "Over here, over here", but his lip movements in no way match his words. In a subsequent scene, after Moonpie has been hit again, Jonathan says "Stay close" but again, his lips do not match what he is saying.

Errors in geography

The chanting crowd in Tokyo, Japan mispronounces the name of their city. They chant "To-ki-o" instead of "Tô-kyô."
