Charles Bronson and Robert Tessier in Hard Times (1975)

Goofs

Hard Times

Edit

Continuity

When Chaney's car arrives at Pettibon's bar at night, it is completely dark out. But as Chaney's group drives away following the confrontation with Pettibon, the sky is light, appearing to be late afternoon, approaching sunset.
When James Coburn is introducing Strother Martin to Charles Bronson, Coburn's arms are hanging loosely by his sides, then the angle changes to face Coburn & his hands are in his pockets. Later in the scene his arms are folded but we never see him fold them.
After driving many miles on dirt roads of the bayou, the sedan is covered with dust. After the fight and they leave, Chaney says they should take the back roads to see the sights. The camera shows the beautiful clean and shiny Packard turn left on to a back road headed for Pettibone's bar.
We see Chaney jump off the train at the beginning, with the next scene showing him walking by tanker cars. In the background you can see the same train that he just jumped from backing up. Most railroaders would know it was a through freight, and not just switching cars.
The first steam train scene shows "L & N" road name. At the station it shows "Southern" road name.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

When Bronson starts shooting up Pettibons place he uses his left hand - cut - and he uses his right hand at the end of the scene.

Revealing mistakes

In the final fight scene between Bronson (Chaney) and Dimitri (Street), fight choreography markings can be plainly seen drawn in yellow chalk across the warehouse floor.
The security chain on Lucy's apartment door is too long and installed backwards. It makes it convenient for the actress to open the door in a scene, and it allows for a wide camera shot through the open door. But, with an extra long chain, and the latch mounted on the door frame instead of the back of the door, it's ridiculously easy for an intruder to unlock it from the hallway.
When at a night club there is a five piece jazz band consisting of piano, bass, drums and a two piece horn section (trumpet and clarinet) yet a tuba and trombone are heard.

Miscellaneous

In Petibon's bar, Cheney shoots up the place with the gun he took earlier. He shoots 8 times, but 8-shot revolvers existed then - and still do.

Anachronisms

Dollar bills Chaney waves around at oyster bar are contemporary currency.
Cheney rides into town at the beginning of the film on a train pulled by a diesel electric locomotive that did no exist at the time the film is set. Later Speed and Cheney ride back to New Orleans on a steam train that would be correct for the time.
There's an air conditioning window unit on one of the buildings at the beginning of the movie as the train pulls into the industrial area.
Bronson smokes a filtered tipped cigarette. Filters were not used on cigarettes until the early '50s.
1973 date on Boxcar visible. To be accurate all Boxcars would have had roof walks. Removal started in 1968.
