Dolemite (1975)

Goofs

Dolemite

Edit

Continuity

Towards the beginning, when Dolemite is out of jail and his girls are driving him home, a group of men pull next to his car, get out, and go straight to his car. Later, when Dolemite shoots the bad guys and drives off, the car is at least 25 feet ahead of where the bad guys stopped.
The girls pick up Dolemite in a 1973 Cadillac Fleetwood, which becomes a 1971 model in the chase sequence and later in the film. The different bumper and headlight styling are obvious in close-ups.
Near the end of the movie, when the Mayor is attacked in his house, a woman is shot dead from outside of the bathroom door. Soon after, she is walking around the room in the background.
As Dolemite and Creeper walk toward Creeper's apartment in an alley, Dolemite's cane is not in his hand. When they enter Creeper's apartment, Dolemite holds a cane.
Dolemite karate kicks the two detectives as they walk away from him. The first detective is knocked out and falls on his back with both of his legs flat to the ground. In the next shot, when Dolemite pours cocaine on them, the unconscious cop's right knee is bent up.

Revealing mistakes

In the fight at the beginning, when the cops frame Dolemite, he kicks one cop into the trunk of the car. Dolemite barely touches the cop, who willingly rolls into the trunk.
The fighters clearly miss each other in most of the fight scenes.
After Willie Green's henchmen shoot Creeper, Dolemite grabs a pistol and shoots one of the henchmen in the chest at close range. The angle of the gun is at least 30 degrees off from where the bullet hole appears in the henchman, but he goes down anyway.
Around 71 when Chi is leaving Dolemite's dressing room, she briefly looks at the camera.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

A singer is clearly lip syncing during Dolemite's club re-opening. As the song finishes on a high note, she steps away from the mic, and her mouth is no longer moving.
When Dolomite begins the signifying monkey bit, the audio is out of sync. But only for the first shot, when the camera angle changes, it is matching again.

Crew or equipment visible

A sound effects man is visible on screen, clapping, during one fight scene.
When Dolemite says "Breathin' down yo neck," shadows of the cast, crew, and equipment are visible.
As Dolemite's girls are driving him home from prison, they notice a car following them. Dolemite has them pull around a curve, gets out, and waits for the other car to pull up. Just before he comes up in back of them and shoots them, the shadow of the camera, its tripod, and a crew member standing next to it, apparently scratching his head, are clearly visible on the street just behind Dolemite.

Boom mic visible

Boom equipment can be seen throughout the movie (23:28 - Dolemite fighting cops in the parking lot scene, 49:10 - karate school scene near the entrance, 49:17 - karate school dojo scene, 59:38 - funeral parlor scene).
The boom mic is visible several times. For instance, when Willie Green arrives at the brothel around 18 minutes into the movie. Around 46 minutes when Chi arrives at the club. Around 57 minutes when Dolemite is on the phone. Around 59 minutes at the church.

Character error

At the club, after Dolemite performs his poetic story, Queen Bee comes out as the audience applauds and says "Alright for Rudy Ray!" instead of "Alright for Dolemite!" In her next line, she seems to pause to catch herself to be sure she says "Dolemite."
