During the chase, the gangster's gun in the helicopter switches back and forth between a M-16 and a Smith & Wesson M76.
Shaft shoots at the helicopter with his shotgun several times and hits the left rear of the aircraft once or twice as shown in a close-up. But, while shown in flight, no damage is visible on the helicopter.
Obvious fake helicopter that Shaft shoots and it explodes. Its rotors were not spinning before the explosion and it was hanging from the overhead steel framework of the abandoned shipyard before being dropped in flames. Additionally, a fiery explosion happens on the ground underneath the helicopter even before it hits the ground.
When Shaft is fighting in the back of Mother Ike's, the first goon coming down the stairs after him starts to fall before Shaft swings at him and when he does, he misses the gangster by at least a foot.
The helicopter is flying with its front doors removed, even though it is wintertime. This has obviously been done to accommodate the shooting from the aircraft during the chase scenes.
As Shaft and Captain Bollin enter the 113th Precinct, a West 50th Street sign is visible. The 113th Precinct is in Laurelton, Queens, while West 50th Street is in Manhattan.
