Ripe and ridiculous exploitation for die-hard Italian movie fans
lazarillo18 February 2009
During the early 1970's there were a lot of "counterculture"-themed exploitation films in the US and Britain. Well, at the time there was also an equal amount of unrest among the youthful "counterculture" on campuses on the European continent. After watching this film, I'm still not sure exactly what the political issues there were. Judging from this movie, the co-ed students were mainly concerned with putting pictures of erotic art displays in the school newspaper and being allowed to wear ridiculously short mini-skirts to class. And their main form of "protest" seemed to be doing impromptu strip teases or playing Rusiian roulette(!). The plot here involves a male and female member of the long-haired campus "counterculture" having a "contest" to try to seduce their young professor and his wife. Their plan goes horribly awry though because the wife turns to be a sex-crazed bisexual swinger, and the female student (Malissa Longo) ends up falling for the professor.

I was a little unclear from the dubbed English soundtrack whether this is supposed to be set in a university or a high school. Regardless, the students look pretty old even for university students. And since the professor and his wife don't look like they're any older than thirty, the "scandalous" May-December romance here is really more of a not-so-scandalous June-July romance. This is one of those Italian movies, like Ferdinand DiLeo's "Being Twenty" or a lot of Joe D'Amato's 70's films, that will really give you a case of cinematic whiplash because it veers from frothy light-hearted sex comedy to brutal seriousness (like a vicious gang-rape scene). The acting is all okay, but the most impressive performance is probably given by Longo's incredible breasts, which get A LOT of screen time and really deliver a tour de force performance (Longo's butt also makes a brief but memorable cameo appearance). Longo, who was in better movies ("Ricco, the Mean Machine") and much worse movies ("Black Emanuelle, White Emanuelle"), is pretty decent, but is upstaged here both by her perpetually exposed breasts and her hairstyle which seems to mysteriously change from scene to scene. I didn't recognize any of the other actors, but the actress playing the ridiculously horny wife is pretty good, and there is one bespectacled, big breasted and oft-topless friend of Longo's named "Banana" (because she's always eating and very phallic-looking bananas) who kinds of stands out among the supporting cast.

This is mostly just ripe and ridiculous exploitation from the director of the the off-the-wall giallo "In the Folds of Flesh". Still, I might recommend it to my fellow die-hard Italian exploitation fans.
