Sidney Poitier in They Call Me Mister Tibbs! (1970)

Goofs

They Call Me Mister Tibbs!

Edit

Continuity

Detective Tibbs is presented as having entirely different biography about details of his life and career than he did in previous film In the Heat of the Night (1967).
The position of Joy Sturges' body and the cloth on it changes between when Mealie finds it and when the police are in the apartment. The police photographs show it as being in the same position as when Mealie found it.
(Around 60 minutes) Tibbs walks toward the door with the sneakers by his side but in the next shot they are in front of him before he lowers them.
In early shots, a book in Joy's apartment has a yellow cover with a prominent cross. In later shots the same book is there but the plain back cover is visible.
In In The Heat Of The Night, Virgil Tibbs is heading home to Philadelphia, Pa. when Sparta Police hall him in on suspicion of murder. That movie was made in 1967, three years before They Call Me Mr. Tibbs. Yet, Virgil Tibbs' boss says that SFPD has 12 years invested in him. So there is a discrepancy in this time table of some 9 years.

Revealing mistakes

When the police are at the dead girl's apartment, she is shown laying on the floor with a blood spot on her backside. Later in the film when the police are looking at photos of the crime scene, the body is shown again, but the blood spot is missing.
