Revealing mistakes

When young Marcello shoots up Lino's room, the squibs are clearly visible in the walls before they explode.
When Manganiello and Marcello are talking in the kitchen of the restaurant, the swinging lamp slows, then obviously someone knocks it on two occasions to keep it swinging.
When Lino first sees young Marcello walking and gets into his car to follow him, he knocks his hat off ducking into the vehicle.

Anachronisms

A radio tower appears in a flashback to Marcello's Rome boyhood in 1917.
Dressmaker Jacques Heim's Heim Actualité was a prêt-à-porter line only introduced in 1950.

Crew or equipment visible

When Marcello leaves his hotel to rendezvous with Manganiello, a crew member is reflected in the glass door.

Character error

As Marcello, Jean-Louis Trintignant breaks character at the dance hall scene when he smiles after Enzo Tarascio playing Professor Quadri rises from the table and spills a glass of wine over Marcello's jacket and pants.
