Steve McQueen in The Reivers (1969)

Goofs

The Reivers

Edit

Continuity

When Boon is teaching Lucius to drive, Lucius's hat disappears and reappears although clearly it did not fall off and he never took his hands off the wheel to replace it.

Revealing mistakes

When Boon, Ned and Lucius begin their trip to Memphis in the Winton the beginning of the scene is filmed in a traveling shot. As the journey proceeds we hear noticeably on the soundtrack the camera truck's motor in addition to the Winton's.
The automobile must run on water because no provision is made for gasoline to make it work. No filling stations existed in 1905 (Memphis got its first gas station in 1913) and gas was special ordered through a local supplier. The small-tank of a car driven from Mississippi to Memphis would require several refills during the trip - but would not be available along the way.

Miscellaneous

On the packaging for the 1993 VHS release of the movie, the music credit is given to Lalo Schifrin. John Williams wrote the score for the film and received an Oscar nomination for his efforts.

Anachronisms

Electricity poles are seen in many scenes set in Mississippi in 1905, when in fact there were none in rural areas. When President Roosevelt's administration electrified Mississippi 30 years later, only 1% of Mississippians had electricity. However, the film accurately shows that much of Memphis was using gas lighting in 1905.
