Fali Bilimoria's Academy Award-nominated documentary "The House that Ananda Built" looks at the life of an Oriya man in Nagpur, India. Ananda lives the way that people in the region have lived for centuries. While watching it, I kept wondering if they're still living like this, considering all the changes that India's undergone in the past half-century. Its rising economy has gotten accompanied by a series of repressive actions that have driven people off their land. In fact, the documentary notes that Ananda depends on the rain for his crops. In recent years, crop failures have driven farmers to suicide.
Anyway, it's a good documentary. I recommend it.
