The film was originally to be shot in color and in a widescreen format but in a cost-saving effort, it was shot in black-and-white. Director Mikko Niskanen was furious over this decision.
The song "Sinua, sinua rakastan", written by Aulikki Oksanen and composed and sung by Kaj Chydenius was written for the movie and became instant classic in Finland.
An adaptation of the debut and only novel by Sakari Haara. He committed suicide soon after the book was published.
