Yul Brynner and Trevor Howard in The Long Duel (1967)

Goofs

The Long Duel

Edit

Continuity

Sultan, his son and two women are at a hut after his escape from the gaol. In a close shot, they are standing in front of the house, to the left of a well. The next shot, a long shot, shows troopers arriving in pursuit of Sultan. In the background, Sultan and his companions can be seen moving from below the house to the position they occupied in the close shot. The following shot shows the women and the boy back to the left of the well (Sultan has gone to hide from the troopers).
At the end of the film Trevor Howard wearing a blue turban goes to see the dying Yul Brynner, Returing he stops to speak to Harry Andrews but he's now wearing a brown turban which becomes blue as he walks away,
When Sultan ambushes the police, the long shot of the machine gun shows it positioned on top of a flat cliff. When Young climbs up to attack it, there is a smooth rock formation behind the position. Later long shots (when Young is firing the machine gun) show a lower, less vertical cliff face with a ragged rock formation behind the machine gun position.

Factual errors

The machine gun used in the ambush and captured by Sultan appears to be a Vickers. It is missing the water-cooling equipment that was essential for its operation. Without this equipment, it would overheat and jam quickly.
The Vickers machine gun requires two men to operate it, as seen in the railway wagon. It could not have been operated with only one as seen in the ambush of the police troops.

Revealing mistakes

Although his character is a bandit living rough in the Indian wilderness, Yul Brynner's costume is permanently an immaculate white, with no sign of dirt or sweat.
17 minutes in, after Sultan and his companions have broken out in the dead of night, there are some very obvious day-for-night shots.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

14 minutes in, during the prison escape, Gungaram hits a man in the face with his rifle butt, apparently so hard that the man is knocked unconscious, but there is no accompanying sound
