A curiosity piece

Warning: Spoilers
HOT THRILLS AND WARM CHILLS is a former acquisition from Something Weird now given a fresh lease of life on Amazon Prime. As usual, Prime in their infinite wisdom have seen fit to excise all of the nudity from this movie, leaving it a boring and pointless talky drama. This black and white feature features a trio of women sitting around in a bedroom and chatting, while they occasionally dance and bed men to boot. They talk about planning a heist, but nothing much ever comes of that discussion.

Sex or Crime?

Warning: Spoilers
"Hot thrills and warm chills" brings together three young ladies, once a formidable gang, nowadays separated and unhappily married. When they finally reunite, they soon come up with a plan of stealing an expensive crown to finance them a better lifestyle independent of their lame husbands.

The movie is settled somewhere between naked skin and what is supposed to be a thriller. Sadly, you hardly see any of the well planned coup actually happening, rather you learn most about it from the girls discussing their plans on the day before. The end then leads to a hectic chase and to be honest, I'm not quite sure if I got it right, which is a bit unusual for a rather simple film like this. In the end it is neither "just" a sex pic, nor is it a proper thriller. It remains quite harmless throughout the whole play-time but probably still remains nasty for its time. The acting is a bit bumpy at times, at several occasions the actresses stumble over their lines but it wasn't all too disturbing.

All in all I think that you could have created a better movie with this particular story. I like the overall sexual energy of the film, but if those parts and the ones that are supposed to carry the story would have been balanced better, this could have actually been quite a decent attempt.

Alexander Makes It Worth Watching

Hot Thrills and Warm Chills (1967)

** 1/2 (out of 4)

The big-breasted and sexy blonde Toni (Rita Alexander) gets two of her old girlfriends over for some drinking and storytelling. Pretty soon Toni lets them know that their old gang should get back together for one more heist. This time they plan on stealing some jewels intended for King Sex.

HOT THRILLS AND WARM CHILLS is another low-budget sexploitation picture from director Dale Berry, a Texas filmmaker with four films to his name. If you're familiar with his other pictures then you should know that storytelling certainly wasn't his strong point and there are several moments throughout this rather short film where I was wondering what was going on.

In all honesty, it's best to just turn your brain off, sit back and enjoy Alexander and his beautiful body. She's certainly the reason to watch this picture and there's no question that she's the highlight. As soon as the film starts she's right there and there's no question that she immediately grabs your attention and doesn't let go. The sexploitation nature of the film allows for some silly sex scenes and nudity, which is certainly want you want to see.

The performances from the three main ladies leaves a lot to be desired but are you really coming to this film for Oscar-worthy performances? I'm going to guess not so the beauty of them is enough to keep this one entertaining.

A choice chunk of 60's exploitation schlock

Warning: Spoilers
Several women led by the super saucy and shameless femme fatale Toni (robustly played with lip-smacking wicked relish by buxom blonde bombshell Rita Alexander) are reunited at a motel. The gals devise a daring plot to steal the King of Sex's crown during Mardi Gras.

Director Dale Berry relates the enjoyably sordid (albeit barely coherent) story at a snappy pace, maintains a blithely sleazy tone throughout, and delivers oodles of fairly raunchy soft-core couplings and tasty bare distaff skin. However, it's the scorching presence of Rita Alexander that gives this picture an extra sizzling kick: Whether she's balancing a wine glass on her ample bosom or admiring her topless reflection in a mirror, Mrs. Alexander sure knows how to put on quite a tantalizing show. In addition, a foxy stripper bumps and grinds for all it's worth, there's lively footage of Mardi Gras, and the climactic exciting foot chase and shootout with the police in a cemetery comes complete with a real corker of a surprise bummer ending. The groovy Latino garage-rock soundtrack hits the right-on rousing spot as well. A total trashy blast.
