Author James Hanley, Irish by birth and Welsh by adoption, crafted a TV play about a lonely spinster having her cottage in a seaside village requisitioned by the local council for a building scheme, with tragic consequences.
Miss Bealby's home is all she ever wanted: Her parents lived there and she was born there. But one day, as she sets out on her daily walk with her cat, she is stalked by sinister Mr. Jones from local council. He has to break the news that she has to leave. Her cottage is in the middle of a redevelopment area and must be demolished. The mental shock to Miss Bealby is enormous but she decides to stay until the bailiffs arrive.
