Rather imaginative
CuriosityKilledShawn7 February 2006
Pinky is out for a stroll when he comes across a talking lamp (why they call Genie Lamps 'lamps' is beyond my understanding as they are clearly old-fashioned kettles) that tries to sell him the pros of being a genie (the life and soul of the party and so on). Pinky falls for it and crams himself into the lamp (it's a kettle), eagerly awaiting his first wishmaker.

But instead of being the life and soul of the party the lamp/kettle is kicked around, stomped on and thrown away by everyone it encounters, giving Pinky inside a rather rough ride. It's quite funny and I did feel sorry for Pinky. He only wants to entertain. And that he did, though by accident I think.

PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWER

Pink Panther Odyssey Part XXII

A magical lamp offers up the opportunity of a lifetime for our Pink. He could become a genie and grant wishes for folk. Unfortunately it doesn't go that way and it's a neat subversion of the usual genie narrative with a sharp ending. Not remarkable, but a good 'un.

This Lamp Gets No Respect
ccthemovieman-13 June 2007
A talking magic lamp?? Yes, and he's a funny guy. He says things like "zowie," "be the life of the party; amaze your friends, come on in!"

The Pink Panther was just walking along minding his own business one day when he spotted the lamp on the ground. The lamp gives him this funny sales pitch (see above for part of it) and convinces him to be a "genie" inside the lamp. Then, he says, just wait for people to rub the lamp and you'll be in business!

That turns out to be easier said-than-done. People don't know it's a magic lamp. How would they? Consequently, our PP has some disrespectful (and funny) things happen to the "lamp." Sometimes he comes out of it, dressed in genie garb, and then places the lamp out where some nice people (i.e. an old lady) will see it and take it. Most of the time, he just hops around inside of it and waits to see what happens. Each time, however, it's a disaster.

I didn't find this hilarious as others have, but it was inventive and definitely fun to watch, especially the beginning.

Not very magical.
OllieSuave-0078 September 2016
The Pink Panther finds a magic lamp in the streets and it starts talking to him. Instead of the lamp granting wishes to the panther, it encourages the panther to become the genie himself. Then, the panther could have the powers to grant other people's wishes as long as they rub the lamp. However, nobody seemed to be interested in rubbing at the lamp, as it gets used it all sorts of purposes, from being used as a tea kettle to a hockey puck.

It's just a lot of back and forth of lamp rejects to the panther trying to dodge obstacles while stuck in the lamp. Not many laughs here and not many action.

The Pink Panther as a genie
TheLittleSongbird2 June 2013
The Pink Panther has lots of entertaining cartoons, and The Genie with the Light Pink Fur is one such cartoon. It is also one of his most inventive in a scenario that I don't think has been done in a Pink Panther cartoon. well certainly not before The Genie with the Light Pink Fur that is. The first half is a little better than the second half in terms of humour, but that is not a problem as The Genie with the Light Pink Fur maintains its imagination and sense of fun throughout right to the end. The gags, a numerous amount too, are very well timed and clever, not to mention very funny. You also feel Pinky's frustration and you do feel sorry for him. The animation is clean and elegantly shaded, no obvious starkness, scrappiness or flatness. The music does nothing to dull the story or gags, it is still jazzy and you still remember it. The theme tune is very catchy and one of those that will not irritate you no matter how many times you hear it(I myself can't count the number of times I've heard it and I love it still). Pinky is fun, cool and instantly likable, in this cartoon as said already you are sympathetic towards his predicament. In conclusion, imaginative and funny, with a great unique(for Pink Panther) idea and packed with clever gags. A winner, and one of the better 1966 Pink Panther outings. 9/10 Bethany Cox

Great Pink Panther-short

The pink panther encounters a talking lamp and he becomes the genie of that lamp. Inside the lamp it is not as good as he hoped for when the lamp is mistaken for a lot of other things. With a great number of big laughs, especially in the first half, this is a great short from the pink panther.

"Be pop-pop-popular . . . "

Warning: Spoilers
. . . cajoles a mystery, never-explained voice emanating from a stray lamp lingering implausibly on a city sidewalk. Without providing any back story, THE GENIE WITH THE LIGHT PINK FUR begins with a pushy sales pitch designed to entice any passing person, panther, elephant, alligator, lion, tiger, bear, hippo or python into cramming themselves inside the lamp from which the unseen speaker's voice is pleading. This picture elicits more questions than it answers. For instance, when it comes to tiny lamps, one is company, but two would be a crowd. Also, no mention is ever made about granting three wishes during this story. Plus, when the hot tea water scalds the panther from the lamp, where is the pitchman? Finally, during the conclusion at the dump, how does the genie recruiter suddenly show up with a second lamp?
